Elegoo Mars 5 Ultra question

Santa was good to me. I had an Elegoo Mars 5 Ultra 3D printer sitting under the tree (well next to it, it was a big box). I already did the first print and it is awesome. I love it.

One question. I have a UV Curing Station on the way, but am using natural UV (sunlight) to cure my first print. How long do parts (small radios this time) need to sit in the sun to cure? Also, once I have the curing station, how long in it?

Not the best way. Sunlight intensity can vary. Summer, winter, cloudy. Hot days may warp larger pieces. Over exposure may crack the resin. Honestly. I would wait for the curing station. When you do get your station, it is basically 1 minute for small pieces. 2 to 5 for average size prints. Larger prints around 6, maybe 7. Hope this helps.

Sounds good. I left them sitting in the sun all afternoon (about 3 hours). They seem sufficiently hardened.

I thought you were building a foreign self propelled gun!

For about $30 you get an LED 405nm UV light from Amazon, a cardboard box lined with tin foil and an optional cheap powered turntable (also Amazon)

you can make an effective post- cure chamber. To avoid over curing, you can add a digital wall-outlet timer.

Thanks for the great answers. Another question for those in the know.

I purchased some files off Cults 3D. Apparently, the build plate of those who created the files is larger than mine. The full file doesn’t fit onto my build plate and the software I am using doesn’t allow me to split up the file. The areas that are off the plate show as red. Does anyone know if I just print it as such, will these areas just not print? I can adjust the file where subassemblies fit and could be printed in separate runs. I just don’t know what will happen if I try to print with some areas off the build plate.

Tilt, add more supports.

Gino,
Right, simply, the red marked parts outside of the print area will not print after slicing.

Perfect. Thanks.

I have a question first. So far I have been using standard resin that gets cleaned up with alcohol. I see there is also water cleanup resin by Elegoo. Has anyone used that type? Any downside or issues with it?

Still loving my new printer. So far I had only been doing small stuff (ammo cans, antennas, etc.). Today I did my first big print. I printed a HEMTT CROPS Flatrack designed by our own @Small_Designer. It came out awesome in one big print with a six hour print time.

Great work, Gino!
I have only used water washable 3D resin for my prints - for the past 3 years. No issues from my prints.

Kind regards,
James

Great news, thanks. I will get the water washable one next order.

By the way, I printed out your socket sets and power tools. They came out great as well.

Happy the print came out good.
I always use Anycubic Water Washable resin on my Elegoo Saturn 2, never had any issue.

Thanks. Sounds like the water washable is the way to go.
