Enemy in sight, 1944

Thanks John,
Yes the small one is for the attic.
I think I will cut off a bit of the house and try to use the dimensions used in this house:

That means to make a cut at the black line.

Well, I hope to continue to night. Feedback?

I think this one is your call Erik. The house will work either as a 3 or 2 story house. Both look good , both are realistic and both occurred in that time frame and that area so you wont be wrong either way. The only real benefit I would say to using the 2 story version is the size dimension when it is on the wooden base- as in height of building compared to the ground work area. ? Only a thought but both work really well.

Thanks John:)
I think I feel more “safe” to use the 2 story version, as you say, comparing to the quite small base that’s better. Thanks :+1:
I hade plans to make damages on the roof, but lack of time will make me doing a very simple roof. I will add some snow as well, so the roof will really be out of focus. Better to do details on the “house facade”.

Hi Eric,

Nice work on the foam, :slightly_smiling_face: :+1:, do you carve it, or is it a case of scribing it so the foam becomes indented?

Cheers,,

Hi Erik, I agree with John’s thoughts on the building.

FWIW - The 3 story will have more visual impact with height but it would pull the eye to the building structure away from the foreground. If the main focus of the story is in foreground, I think the 2 story will work best.

Full disclosure, I haven’t built a diorama in over 30 years. So please take my comment accordingly.

Either way the building looks fantastic!
Outstanding work!

Thanks a lot guys!
I had no time to continue today. I have decided and already cut off the “third story”, no picture yet. I think that will be the best visual effect.
The tools I use: a pencil, a needle and a knife. This pink styrofoam is not as good as the blue I think. But it will do for this house I hope.
Cheers

Wow you’re like G-Man, another day another diorama - beware the Diorama Police! I like what you did with the Krupp factory, it seems so long ago already & this one’s looking good too :tumbler_glass:

@Dioramartin Police stopped me today, searching for my new diorama. I was lucky, they didn’t find it, it was hidden under the seat. It was not the first time I got away…

I am testing to make a roof on the gate using paper and aluminum. Will see if that works out tomorrow…
Now Zzzzzz. Cheers

Ps the gate is not ready. More painting and weathering is needed. Zzz

Wow. I like the height of the building now, that looks perfect when compared to the base size area. That guttering looks really good, amazing work for something so small.
Can you tell us what the arch is made out of ? And do you coat it or seal it with anything before you start carving ?
I am amazed that you can go from an oblong of whatever it is, go a fully formed, painted and 95% completed arched entrance in such a short space of time. Brilliant :+1::+1:

That was a lucky break Erik, the advantage of Braille scale - I’d stand more chance hiding my car seat under the diorama. Here’s what happened to the last guy to run more than two dios simultaneously…

Great tones & shades on the new wall, perfect :tumbler_glass:

@Micke_MM Ha ha yes I do have a work. But as I have so little time for this great hobby I have to build and think very fast. Last month’s I have been very active, that’s unfortunately not my standard mode.

looking amazing!

After my daytime work I had a great time in the work shop yesterday night, 3 hour to be exact :hourglass_flowing_sand:

I have been inspired by Ardennes buildings like this:

So what happens?

I use balsa wood and blue styrofoam to create the new facade on second floor. I only had time to make the front. I found a roof made by Noch, a real quick fix, on the pictures the roof is just placed on top, it is not glued, weathered or anything. I also made some improvements on the gate.
I have a feeling that this building will be my best build building I have made so far.
Cheers, Erik

PS I build quite fast much because I have all parts that I need in my stock. Nowadays I don’t order anymore parts etc. I strictly use what I have, that is a time saver.

I reply to my own post, when I look at this small 1/72 dio I suddenly realize what a great 1/35 dio this could be! Hmmmm, that would be cool to make one in 1/72 and an almost identical in 1/35…well maybe in my next life :innocent:

That is brilliant Erik, the new facade looks amazing and fits right in with the whole build. Some incredible building skills you have. :+1:

Hi Erik! You can calmly start the building in 1:35 because now there are no police in Sweden, everyone guards the border to Norway
