Flyhawk is getting really weird

…or did they legalize pot in China?

Think I’ll pass on this Flyhawk release!

No more weird than this.

Apparently, it is huge in Japan.

What’s odd is that Google has no info on this “Iron Ears” as a manga or anime. Nada… Did they just make this up?

That will probably be VERY popular in North Korea

 :joy:  :grinning:

If it is, it will be banned by Lil’ Kim (or, Rocket Man). Only he is allowed to be popular!

That’s… odd. Might mean we see a new 1/72 FT-17 come from it though.

A few years back I stumbled on the Asuka Firefly rebox in the cartoon colours. On a shelf in a toyshop amongst a load of Pokémon stuff. Don’t recall it coming with the silly girly figures though. It actually worked out cheaper than an original boxing and I have proper decals, so no way was I going to leave it.
I have thought from time to time to stick it on eBay. I have a theory that fans of whatever cartoon it’s from, will pay more than the original Asuka boxing is worth. I might have a look and see what the going price is though before I make a gamble.

It looks a bit like what Sweet did years ago with their 1/144 aircraft. Cartoon style boxes and instructions but proper little kits inside although some did come in ‘grown up’ boxes and a couple did come with Cat deck crew.

Example of their cartoon style

And grown up style

Flyhawk already have several 1/72 FT-17 versions. Maybe some “Beutepanzer” from WWll.

Good to know. To be honest I see very little Flyhawk over here, so I’m not a 100% sure of their line. Besides from the occasional ship, rarely see them in the wild.

I’m sure I’m not overstating that Flyhawk is currently the best 1/700 ship models, and among the top 3, or 4 producers of 1/72 armour. I hope my examples do them justice:

FT-17

Abrams M1 A1

HMS Penelope

KMS Bismarck

HMS Naiad

USS Ward

WWl German destroyer G37
I always buy my kits from Chinese ebay vendors. They have the lowest prices and shipping.

I have no idea what this Iron Ear Series is. Maybe we’ll never know. There are many Japanese culture fads we will never comprehend.

Those are fantastic, thanks for sharing.

I’ve only ever bought one of theirs, a late war Royal Navy light cruiser. I forget which at the moment, but yes it is a very nicely detailed model. I must get around to building it now that life has calmed down a little now.

Will have to keep my eyes open for more of theirs. I do want to get the Dauntless.

Thanks. It helps to build a good model when you start off with a good model. I might mention that these are out of the box builds because I buy the Deluxe versions of the kits (comes with complete PE, and replacement turned barrels, although the plastic ones are excellent).

Tori Factory already did something similar years ago:

This sort of thing comes up every now and then, it just might lure younger people into the hobby, you never know. I know these have been posted before by me on another thread but it shows to me it’s not isolated to one specific group. Japanese Command might even be Furrys!!!

It’s definitely colourful :+1:

Interesting idea, it’s like those anime kits with the tanks and the female anime figures. I wish Flyhawk good luck with this; whether it works or not.

Flyhawk tried the “cute toy” ('toon) style models with a ship kit a couple of years ago - or maybe last year! Didn’t seem to go very far. I guess they call that a “learning experience”.
