Forest Green

I’m having problems getting Forest Green acrylic paint. My LHS cant help and I’m wondering what to do. IDF green looks v similar but I want to get this right.

I’m planning MERDC desert finish for the first time and have no real idea about what would work.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are still a few places the sell old stock of Model Master paints. AK also makes it but I can’t recommend it as I’ve never used it. I read that good color matches with them are hit or miss. NATO Green is also not a terrible choice, and Tamiya does make it in acrylic.

For my IDF armor, I use Vallejo 71.044 Grey RLM02. I had a piece of 1:1 IDF armor and this color was a very close match.

Not the best example, but it was the on;y one i could find finished. This has a pretty healthy dose of shelf dust on it as well.

If you need a Forest Green in a true acrylic, I recommend the new Ammo ATOM Forest Green AT20093. I’ve tried the ATOM paint and it shoots great and brushes well. Usually one coat coverage.

For the MERDC Desert, the main colors are Sand 30277 and Field Drab 30118 for Gray Desert, and Earth Yellow 30257 with Earth Red 30117 for Red Desert. Forest Green was not part of any “official” MERDC schemes, although at NTC I did see plenty of vehicles in a non official scheme with 30277 Sand and 34079 Forest Green on multiple occasions.

This was the article that mentioned forest green (hope it’s OK to post this). Is it the wrong shade completely or has the author confused the paint name? Once I know more about the two desert schemes I’m definitely going to try some of the paints you good folks have mentioned above.

Acknowledgement and apologies to Fine Scale Model magazine. It’s a great article.

Yes, that is forest green in the MERDC Winter Verdant scheme in the pic.

Forest green is not in the Desert MERDC schemes though.

Thanks Gino, its MERC winter verdant for me then. I really like that scheme.

PS Have you seen HobbyLink’s newest bunch of trailers? You probably have but if not, definitely worth a look.

Ultimately it comes down to which colors you like (and whose chart you choose to believe) for MERDC Winter Verdant. AK has it listed as dark green, as do a few other sites, while the “MERDC Snow with trees” above it lists forest green.
I’ve used forest green, medium green, dark green, and NATO green. All of them looked “right” when weathered. I wouldn’t get too wrapped around the axle on the color. My guess is you could even get away with Tamiya field gray.

First attempt ever:

I’m guessing that’s the HobbyLink conversion set. Or am I wrong?

Sort of. It was the Hobby Link M52 tractor parts and Mikey Bugs’ M800 parts. Hobby Link had not released their M800 parts yet.
