Forgotten Wars Group Build

The hull is assembled, primed, and pre-shaded - ready for paint. I thought I would do the hull without the fenders, paint it and weather it, then attach the wheels and tracks paint and weather and then finish. But pre-fitting made me think the fenders would be fiddly so I just decided to finish all the hull and cope with the wobbly wheels later.

I love these vehicles. This is quite a complex kit, even without an interior, and even so I’m already planning the T-55 for that campaign.

Well I finally got a base coat of paint down on mine too today. Hopefully I’ll get sme time for detail painting this week.

not sure how long there is left on this campaign but dusted off off the RFM Syrian T34 D30… some oil dot work, tracks and wheels painted… not finished as I need to dust her up but that will have to wait…

You have until the end of the year…

I know I posted the start pic much earlier in the campaign but now that I have finished up some other campaigns I will get cracking on my entry.

I will be doing this T-55 in the colours of the Rhodesian Army which had prepped the vehicles for Operation Quartz in 1980. The operation never did go ahead but the vehicles were ready.

It is a MiniArt kit so lord knows if I will have the time needed to complete it by the end of the year.

Nice choice Rory. I hope you get it done.

I have decals and sealing coat of gloss down on my AMX Chaffee, but it has been humid and wet here all week, so I have not been able to put down a matt coat. One thing I have learned living here, if you want matt, don’t spray in this type of weather. Based on the weather forecast, tomorrow may be my best chance for the next week…

I am jumping into this campaign with the old venerable KP 1/72 SU-25. I am going to do it in Iraqi colors from the various wars in the 1980ties.

I am stealing the decals from the eduard Royal class mig-21. I am not trying to use those very yellow KP decals.

I thought I was finished my build, but I found a side pic of the AMX 13 Chaffee I am building and after finding out what I thought was a flag case is actually a spare .50 Cal barrel, I am adding that. So… final pics for the build sometime this week.

Question. Does anyone want an award medal for this build, or we all good having just participated?

Surely we want a medal for this :slightly_smiling_face:

I just hope somebody could help us get one :crossed_fingers:t2:

Whom might you be referring to Jesper? Better make sure Phil wants one though…

Just a thought:

Will look like this on screen:

Anybody have other ideas?

I think that’s very cool!! I’m happy to administer it. I have a couple of other campaigns I need to send the info in on (thanks for your work on badges, Peter!).

I dont know if I will. Normally I would have no real issue with getting a single vehicle done in a month but now that I have started building this beast I have doubts. It is so over engineered, with so many parts and so many sprues that progress has been very slow.

If this deadline is too close, I would not mind if you wanted to make it part of the T-54/55 campaign instead…

Peter, you are the medal master. Looks very cool - as I knew it would
Only comment would be to make the question mark bold/thicker on the medal.

Have to offset it slightly or you lose the ability to discern the map as the Earth in the smaller normal screen view.

Its all good. I like challenges.

First update. Majority of the suspension is competed and the main hull is together. I have also put all the wheels together. This is roughly 3 days work and I am on step 11 of 44 for the hull construction.

Great looking medal, Peter! I like both, but prefer the white version. The impact is slightly better.

Okay, finally got around to the base and now I’m done.

AMX 13 with Chaffee turret (or AMX 13 US or AMX Chaffee - can’t seem to pinpoint the exact designation).
Recap:
Takom 1/35th Kit
Corrections made:
Bolts added in lieu of welded wheels
Side hull access ports corrected to be flush with hull
Missing panel lines added
Minor fittings replaced/added
Weld beads added

Scratchbuilt:
Tarps, and blankets for rear stowage
Spare MG barrel and cover
Various straps and tie down loops.
Muzzle cover
aerials.

Marked up as “Bretagne”, the French name for the Brittany region, a vehicle in service in the Algerian War 1961. Kit decals are missing the ‘51’ on the rear turret bin, but I was lucky I found a suitable set in the spares box. I have some reservations about the registration number - the last three digits, but just used them anyway.

Overall a nice kit to build and if you can get over the missing bolts on the wheels, a reasonably quick and sufficiently detailed model.
