G7117 kitchen truck

Hi all,

I’m interesting to buy the ICM kit of the Chevrolet G7117 with the field kitchen. But I have not found any pics of the real thing. Can someone helps with more info or reference pictures ?

Thank you in advance.

Can’t say as I have, but there are pics of the kitchen gear in the larger CCKW 2-1/2 ton truck, usually with the “Ben Hur” trailer for supplies. There’s a Tankograd book with lots of pics of them.

I bought mine to plunder the gear for a CCKW…

Hi, The 2,5 t truck seems more common as kitchen truck so I’m not sure if I will make a field kitchen with the 1,5 t truck.

ICM offers the same kitchen equipment from their G7117 Kitchen Truck kit as a separate set, along with cooks. You could easily add them to a CCKW to make a more accurate kitchen truck.

Yeah, they offered that just AFTER I bought mine! :frowning: Still, I’ll find a use for the surplus Chevy…

They were used for any number of purposes in civilian “clothes”

Haven’t got the foggiest about what this is/was supposed to be but
it IS different …

Redneck Ride?

Small rural schoolbus or maybe a shuttle bus on some US military base?

Fifth wheel tractor?

Either a military semi-trailer or some home-cooked civilian

The fifth wheel tractor would be an interesting project. Don’t know if it would be difficult to scratch the conversion.

I think @barkingdigger Tom designed a 3D-print fifth wheel conversion for this truck …

I did indeed! Sadly it was on Shapeways, so went with them into oblivion. I still have the file so could put it on 3dptrain.com for our US friends, or maybe on Cults3D for anyone with their own printer. I’ll mull it over this weekend…

I vote Cults3D if it matters. I could use one too.

Here ya go! I also did the overload springs (for the old Italeri CCKW that I converted just before both MiniArt and ICM came out with Chevies!) if you think they’d be useful.

Perfect. Thank you.

Do you need the overload springs too? Haven’t looked at the MiniArt kit so I assume it doesn’t have them - the ones I designed would need some basic surgery to fit the MA or ICM kits.

I don’t have a kit to put them on yet. Which is best to use?

Not sure. I have both in the stash, but haven’t built either of them yet. I understand the ICM front end is a tad too wide according to reviews, but not sure if it’s enough to notice. I might have a peek in the boxes later when I’m in the hobby room this afternoon…

ICM springs:

Miniart rear springs

Miniart front springs

I wonder why they put the front springs on a tiny sprue?
Later kits have the front springs molded on the frame rails …
