Been a gamer for years since the Atari days same for model building. But I have never really paid it any notice in the past about real life military in video games since it was always American it just normal to see. But I recently started playing STALKER 2 and it everything really stood out to me all the Russian vehicles and how I just started my Russian building phase of model kits. Seeing what I have recently built and others I will be building all in the video game.
Watch out for the rads around the scrapyards! Oh and the snorks too- stock up on vodka, anti-rads and plenty of ammo!
There are so many good kits of the vehicles in this game available now plus a whole raft of Stalker type figs too. I’ve only done one many years ago but I recently finished Stalker 2 and might get some and see how it goes.
Im playing with mods to make my game experience more of a walking sim Im loving exploring the game world and passing time til GTA6 comes out. Now I got to pick up some stalker figures to go with my builds.
You could do worse than watching Andrei Tarkovsky’s 1979 movie “Stalker” (the screenplay was written by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, exploring ideas originally found in their novel Roadside Picnic (1972). The novel was the origin of the word “Stalker” in the sense it was used in the movie and the game, to the extent the English word has passed into the Russian language meaning “someone who is passionate about searching for and exploring little-known—and often life-threatening—locations, and who acts as a guide to such places”. Although the movie preceded the Chernobyl disaster and the establishment of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone by seven years, from the outset many of the people entering this zone (both officially and unofficially) referred to themselves as Stalkers - and still do…
The location filming needed to to be reshot several times in then highly-polluted sites in Estonia, with many of the crew believing this was a factor in ill-health afflicting them later, including the deaths of Tarkovsky, his wife, and one of the principle actors; these three (at least) expiring from bronchial cancer.
It is believed the 2024 video game Pacific Drive was also inspired by Roadside Picnic, a TV show based on the game has been mooted.

I did the same “back in the day”…..I started my 1/144th scale aircraft addiction while I was playing Falcon 3 Gold. I started by building the AC that I was flying……
