Chassis is done, bit of cleaning up here and there… but it’s coming along nicely…

As you can see this one isn’t to detailed…

Plodding on with the cab insides.

If I was doing it OOB it would be done by now admittedly and I have been swamped at work, so it’s been going a bit slow …

Because I am putting more realistic netting behind the front seats, it’s a bit more of a faff …
It will involve a lot of dry fitting and putting things in slightly the wrong order. And I now need to make a start on the seatbelt for each seat…
They will be made from this … A chunk of plastic and 1.5mm masking tape.

This is the upper bunk but with the 2 middle bits in the down position. That allows for 2 tank crew to sit in the cab if needed, however, it was only usually the driver that went with tank on a transporter…

The outer parts needed to have the void areas underneath filled so I used some plastic card as you can see that area if you really look from outside as the bunk sits high on the rear side windows

This is the way it sits when fitted, but level.

And the cab as it is

And the lower bunk bed visible …

And the upper bunk dry fitted … With one of the mesh nets dry fitted …

Great work guys.

No need to rush John, take your time and make sure the result is what you want.

Really moving along nicely Bert.

Guys if I am offline for a few days don’t panic. I live in the direct path of Cyclone Alfred, just 2 k from the coastline. If I only lose power I will be lucky, but I have been warned that tidal backup may cause nearby creeks to rise and flooding is likely to occur. Evacuation is possible (probable ?)

I have only lived here a few months and the house and the surrounding property development itself is just 3 years old, so there is no flood history to go by other than pre-development.

I won’t panic; I grew up on the Florida Gulf Coast. My first storm was Camille in 1969.

You should be fine as long as you are ready for no power or running water for a few days.

Well, here in the Netherlands 75% of us live below sea level… but the last real flooding was in 1953…

Detailing the Land Rover is taking more time than it should; the trailer has also received some details:

Nice internal detailing along with the trailer extras :+1:

Thanks John; when I first made this model round about 1981, I breezed through it and obviously didn’t notice the sink marks (I don’t think I even knew what a sink mark was back then) and other limitations. It’s still a pretty good kit and in its later Revell iterations turns out quite nicely as a Brit version, but it does need a bit of TLC that’s for sure.

Mods to the trailer are from memory really and I may well have it wrong; whilst it was essentially the US WW2-type, it did differ with say, lights approved by the German authorities etc.

I’m still racking my brains to try and remember the vehicle markings; number plates for the Army Group HQ vehicles were similar to the Bundeswehr ones but with an “X” as a prefix compared to the “Y” of the German ones. I can’t remember how many digits followed. In any case, I’ll probably use combinations of my personal Army number. After all, it’s not as though the modelling display halls will be bursting with Northern Army Group experts will they?

I expect very few would even know what it was mate

Great looking builds here so far.

All my aftermarket arrived so should get cracking on this combo soon.

Looks good Alex…

I managed to get the seat belts done as best as I could …

How they started…
Lengths of 1.5mm masking tape, and spare PE and cut plastic.

And fitted … These were a pain to photo, and you won’t see much once cab is together, but you can see parts of them… So it’s worth it …

And I got the upper rear bunk fitted in. Some areas around that need touch painting…

Kudos on the seat belts, small detail that breathes light into the cab.

Went off on a bit of a tangent… I wanted to put one of the trusty Boiling Vessels (BV) on the passenger seat, so instead of just prepping one, I thought I may as well do all 8 …
Was a lot easier to paint on the resin blocks …

Gave them a coat of XF20 medium grey.

Also made the BV cables using very thin twisted electrical core wires and fitted those into drilled out plastic rod…

Then detail painted the catches, pressure valve and handles, top warning plate and the side manufacturers date plate ( still need to paint a brass plate under that)

You get 4 BVs closed and 4 you can show open, 2 of which have 4 ration cans in…

Have got the cab insides together and applied a gentle wash to dirty it up a bit.
There’s an open BV on the rear seats and the lid is on the passenger seat along with the BV cable ( I pre-made 3 cables)
And fitted the dash to front cab. Will fit steering wheel after I do the cargo netting

I thought fitting the interior would be super easy into the cab frame … How wrong was I…
I assumed it was catching at the rear where the lower bunk rests below the 2 dropped seat sections above … So I spent an absolute ages sanding all the areas I thought it would be … Still no joy … The internal floor plate part wants to sit about 1.5mm forward of where it’s meant to …it’s annoying as I dry fitted this several times over the last few days…
I have ended up lining up and heavily masking the drivers side to the near as damn it position I can get it to.

So the seams and joints are pretty good.

And this shows the gaps on the passenger side.

I am going to let the masked up side fully set over night before doing the same on this side.

Welcome aboard Alex. Nice combo choice.

Best laid plans. It is Horror Boss, so I am not surprised you had fit issues John. I hope it works out for you.

PS.

That was for me ‘not to panic’…

Lost power for 3 days, had no mobile phone service and was cut off by fallen trees and flooded roads, but Cyclone Alfred was not as bad as had been expected.

Worst part was no electricity so I could not work on the builds I had going - no reference pic for detailing and no power for air compressor… oh well…

Glad you made it through the worst of it matey … The fit is a bit lacking, but its workable, just needs a bit more TLC than usual …
