Well-engineered roadwheel

Ted, this is a great set of pics. I was never quite sure what constituted the exhaust on the beast; the pic showing the sooty build-up and the charred unditching beam is just great. I will now amend my somewhat aged model and set to with some black pastels!

Maybe I missed it but where is this museum I’d love to go.

I wonder if this is influenced by German roadwheels?

Its technically not a museum but a collection and not generally open to the public.

I’m no Ninja on T-64 details, but I believe the Conqueror roadwheel is remarkably similar.

Old Man Morozov was nobody’s fool mind!

Any idea if this was the one previously on display at CIA headquarters ?

Edit: it was DIA headquarters, I’ll try to locate the old article I read this from.

That is what I was told last year.

This is the US Army Armor & Cavalry Collection (The Collection) on Fort Benning GA. It is part of the CMH (Center for Military History) museum system, but it is formally called a Training Support Faciity. It is used daily as a training system for operators, maintainers, logostics and medical teams, etc. All the vehicles are static.

While not “open to the public”, in fact it has at least one Open House most months, sponsored by the NAtional Armor & Cavalry Heritage Foundation.

Here is the Foundation’s website, with (scroll down) discussion about schedules of Open House events. One is scheduled for 6 September, 0900-1600 hours.

Kind Thanks, good sir. IF you need specifics, I’ll be there later this month for volunteer dates, and the EOM Open House

Couple of decades you’ve covered in “German roadwheels”. Have you a particular set? :eyes:

How is the Trumpeter kit?

Apropos of nothing in particular, some years ago, when I was working as a sort of “volunteer” at the Tank Museum at Bovington, I offered up a case to procure such a revolutionary tank as T-64. I like to think it was well argued. They had a T-72 but to me, and I’m sure others, the acquisition of a T-64 (probably Ukraine even back then) was almost essential, as I saw it, to any self-respecting tank museum.

There was not the slightest bit of interest.
