Thrilling! So many diorama opportunities, and a fantastic looking standalone Spaten! 2024 is beginning great.
Looks like they are simulating the buckling of the skin against the internal structure - the weld seams of the armor modeler.
“Looks like they are simulating the buckling of the skin against the internal structure.”
Good observation, Fred. “Oil canning” is a tricky thing to pull off in plastic, and in the past, it usually meant a laborious session or two with a Dremel.
“Messerschmitt.”
“Heinkel.”
“Messerschmitt.”
“No they ain’t, they’re Heinkel.”
Happy New Year!

That’s such a great scene from the movie. It’s only about 3 seconds long but it’s indelibly linked to my memories of the movie.
“oil canning tricky to pull off in plastic.”
Indeed. A tedious and annoying process. It is also a legitimate excuse to not fill in every molding dimple or sink that might be on a part. Denting and what not. Attached is a photo of me at work c.early 1990, and you can see the photographer’s (now a big shot international 747 captain) wing is definitely in need of filler and sanding, LOL
Kind of like me nowadays, LOL. Amazing that when that photo was taken, those airplanes were 15 years younger than I am now.
You flew Jumbo jets?
“it is a dream I have.” - King Arthur, Excaliber
No, I did not fly jumbo’s. Just freightdogged around in DC3s and twin Beeches. It’s a roommate that flies the 747s - he is not flying an Antonov An-2 around Europe, a powered parachute around his hometown, or parasailing over Crete. Our other roommate is American Airlines (I refuse to say American Airways unless I’m doing something official on duty) jetting across the country and some big Airbus. I am the underachiever.
It was on TV over Christmas
missed it.
Just noticed - they all look to be whitewashed. Does anyone know where this shot was taken?
Yes!!! It really pleases me that we see more and more 1/35 offerings
This photo of a Focke-Wulf with Panthers tanks horsing around behind it is a good example of the diorama potential of making common aircraft in the dominate “military” scale.
And there are plenty ofsoft skins and support vehicles to populate any diorama, too. Not to mention all those boots on the ground to go with it.
Absolutely.
A couple years ago I saw a 1/48 diorama of a Polish bomber being passed by a column of German infantry and some light vehicles. Imagine just how vast the vehicles and figure selection is in 1/35th. I can’t remember if I’ve seen the picture or if it’s just an idea, but I really want to model a British M3 Stuart looking over a Ju 87 stuka in North Africa. Imagine the diorama possibilities of SAS raiders attacking Sidi Haneish airfield?
