Hello from the UK

Hello everyone,

Looking to get back into the hobby after a bit of a hiatus, I’m guessing I’m not unusual with the story of “started building kits as a pre-teen, lost interest as a late-teen, never had time for it while building a career.” Well, now I have the need to be creative in the physical world (my work is entirely digital) and how better than dusting off some of the plastic that has been stashed away for decades…

I’m mostly interested in Cold War to Modern Armour and Aircraft subjects, and not afraid of a bit of “what if?” paint schemes or equipment combinations!

Looking forward to seeing how the hobby has changed, building some modern kits and trying some new techniques!

Welcome aboard!
Lots of knowledge in this collective so go ahead and ask questions.
Even if we do not always come up with an answer we usually have
fun in the meantime.

Welcome to the madhouse that is Kitmaker! As Robin says, please don’t hesitate to tap up the crowd for our collective wisdom. What part of the UK do you call home? I’m in East London.

Welcome mate! Lots of amazing builders and knowledge here. I will point out that those of us on this side of the planet are not considered as a “mad house” and in fact are very refined as well as cultured……believe that at your peril!

… with an unlimited supply of petri dishes…because we like examining moulds.

Welcome, if I may call you Meat, as opposed to Dead, or Mr. Loaf. I should confess I’m an ex-pat Pom, yeah the worst kind…a tip for you – never, ever say the “C” word. Cricket.

If your stash is decades old, it’s probably a good idea to start & practice on a couple of those but in the longer term you’ll probably find better/more accurate versions of what you’ve got will have emerged in the intervening years. Alternatively, you may prefer to up-detail/correct those older kits, many inmates here prefer to do that. Some even build them OOB (out of the box).

Greetings from across the pond! Don’t hesitate to ask a question, start a topic, and most of all have fun. This is the #1 site on the net.

Hey DeadMeat! Welcome aboard!

Yes, we share the same story. I’ve been back at it for 1.5 year, and it’s one of the best choices I’ve made in my adult life! Not as much time as I’d like, but it’s better than nothing

Good luck, and I’m looking forward to seeing what comes out of your shop!

To echo others sentiments, welcome aboard from another Commonwealth. As you’ve been hearing there is wealth of knowledge here, just ask.

Hi - Best advice stick to Tamiya for ease of build. Others like Gecko, Riich, Bronco can be very taxing etc even for mature modellers! I’ve just finished the Hobby Boss White Scout Car, much more tricky than the Tamiya version ! PS Tamiya Odourless Glue is great!

It was a stroke of genius to get other countries to pay for the exportation of our liquid sewage in bottles & cans  Meanwhile you’ll hopefully be um relieved to know there are several thousand small breweries in Oz that know how to make good beer…even the warm varieties.
