I have been lurking for a month or so and decided I should introduce myself. My name is Derek and I have been modeling since 2020. I love building AFVs and Gundams! Here is some of my past work, starting with my oldest work.
Hey Derek welcome to Armorama. I’m glad you’re comfortable enough to introduce yourself and get the full benefits of the site. You’ve got some spectacular work there. Keep posting!
Very inventive and colorful work- welcome to the site! How did you do the lights in the Gundam?
Thank you! I plan too! I’m working on a MG Buster Gundam that I’m excited to share soon!
Nice faces and uniforms on your figures!
There is a LED kit you can buy for the MG Barbatos called Kosmos, comes with the stand and the lights.
To get the lights in there, I was filing/ sanding/ carving out sections on the back side of the armor pieces to get the light in position and to give enough room for the wires so the armor pieces still close. It took about 10+ hours to plan and install the lights. I also put a piece of paper in between the light and clear plastic to filter the hot spots, so the lights shine where they are supposed to.
It was a great experience, but I don’t think LEDs are my thing. I like the process but never turn them on after finishing the build! Lol
Thank you! Painting the clothes of the figures was the most tedious part of that project! I tried going for a digital camo impression, so I tried painting the smallest dots I could with the three colors. Going back and forth until I was satisfied and going crazy in the process lol
Welcome Derek…great opening intro as well … The builds look very nicely done as well…I really like the Leo 2 and it’s rather large escort / cover guard !!
The split track on the Leo looks perfect as well…
Wow, that’s really nice of you to say! Thank you! I looked up quite a few reference pics for that thrown track. I noticed in most, the tracks were flat with a little “bulb” at the end.
That sounds like a very tricky process but it really does look worth the effort. I just finished a kit with three LED’s in it- not as tricky as this but I don’t think it’s really my thing either- and I probably won’t be using them now that I have the build in a display case!
Welcome aboard, interesting stuff…
So the really cool thing about the Kosmos set, is that it comes with a remote to turn the lights on/off and other settings! So mine is also in a display case, but from the couch I can turn on the lights lol
Welcome aboard. Those are nice builds. Look forward to seeing your next projects.
Welcome to Armorama, @Brisk_Risk Derek! Those are all very impressive models and well done. Excellent work on the figures
Looking forward to seeing more.
