HMCS Agassiz 1941

A bit of progress. The wheelhouse has the open portion of the bridge have had their details and tailings attached. Looking at the photographs of the ship in the AOTS book on Agassiz, she had the rounded topped gunshield anf no blast bag on the gun, Also the bridge railings had canvas dodgers in place. I have used Crystal Clear to replecate them.

The formast fitted nad the dodger having dried clear, painted a lighter grey.

The view from aft, vents and the galley funnel have been fitted, I have just noticed the skylight on the aft end of teh deck below the bridge needs a little touch up. work on the cowl vents around funnel have been started.

More within the next week or so.

Cheers, Si

Looks great! I always enjoy seeing the detail put into ship models. Not sure if I could build one with all the small subassemblies that you paint before attaching… And not to mention all that masking…

I will admit pre painting the sub assemblies saves an awful lot of masking. On a single colour scheme like this I can airbrush the 3D printed parts before removing tthem from their plinths, and touch in any attachment points on fitting. A lot ot the deck details are seperate parts, even the small hatches along the main deck, and the skylights. I brush painted the deck dark grey, gives it that little bit of texture.

I was somewhat daunted by the complexity if the kit when I first open the box, but when I started on it I was very pleasantly suprised, the fit of the resin parts was excellent, and the instructions very clear, and the assembly order very mostly logical, now I am well on with this, I can say it is a very enjoyable build. I am trying to work into my ship modeling budget the money for another varient.

Thank you for looking in,

Cheers, Si

A bit more progress over the last week or so.

The funnel and the vents around it in place. The stays still need adding to the funnel, but I have found it easier to fit the rigging around the deck gear than the other way round.

An overview, with the vents and cable reels fitted to the engine casing. next job will be the funnel stays, plus the platforms for the boats and Carley floats abeam of the funnel.

More before too long.

One or two things have slowed me down over the last few weeks, but progress has continued.

The liferafts have been added on their platforms just forward o the funnel.

Along with the boats, getting the rigging on the davits in is going to be fun, also the funnel stays to do as well. The minesweeping winch has been fixed in place and greased up a bit

.

The rest of minesweeping gear, the mainmast, depthcharge racks, a few other detials and the rigging.

Cheers Si

She’s coming together very nicely. That’s great work on both the life boat framing and platforms. Colour me impressed. :+1:

Hi Colin,

Thanks for looking in and your kind comment. I must say, as high a parts count as this little gem is real joy to build, all the etch and 3d printed parts fit spot on. I am just taking each stage one step at time. I am saving my pennys for another one of Black cats Flowers, not sure which one yet.

A little more progress.

The paravanes and their davits fitted along with a few more bits and peices.

My order from Black cat arrived with a pack of eight 2pdrs to replace the kit 2pdr which I managed to break flash hider off. (At least one of those will be going on my next project, more about that when I get closer to commissioning Agassiz)

The depth charge racks have also been fitted., I now need to rebuild the bit of the stern bulwark I managed to break off unpacking it.

The mainmast needs building and fitting, then it is just the rigging.

More soon.

Cheers,

Si

Thanks for looking in Rory, She is not far off, well the riging is going to be a bit tricky.

Si, your little Agassiz is looking sweet! I love those sharp Black Cat castings, and you are making the most of them. Is she going to be on a sea base?

Tim, Thanks for looking in, and your kind comments. As to a sea base, I am undecided at the moment, but I do think it would set her off nicely. I will add the kit has been a real joy to build.

A little progress over the weekend, the damage to the stern has been repaired.

And painted in.

That will need another coat, with a slightly darker grey, not an issue.

Finally the the mainmast has been fitted and I am on the rigging.

The only thing not included, even on the etched fret, is some anchor cable, spare etch box delevered some as usuual.

More soon.

cheers, Si

She’s looking great, Si! That base is unusual… temporary?

Thanks Tim,

The base is temporary, the grey is the original base that came withe the ICM 1/144th Kreigfischkutter, but did did not support that very well, so some thick plasticard structure was added, fits this hull very well until I get round to making a proper base.

Hello Si.
Since I was offline for a long time, I’m just now getting on board.
She just looks great. What a great job on this tiny scale.

Hi Jorg,

Thank you for looking in and your kind comment. I did see your update on the Mikasa yesterday. I was very sorry to read of your loss, please accept my deepest sympathies. Getting back to the bench is a good thing.

Hi Si,

almost there - she’s looking outstanding!
I really have to do one of those little flowers sometime, too - especially after having the chance to see on real, the HMCS Sackville.

Cheers
