Hot out of the molds 2025

@FlyingSauerkraut congrats on finishing! A great little model with a crazy backstory. I wonder how many would have to be sent at one time towards the US Navy for any of them getting trough the defences. But maybe more tactical kamikaze planes for land use.

I was recently watching some videos about postshading techniques and weathering aircraft, and as my practice runs on dummy targets looked good I decided to try it out on Airacobra…

And … one step forward… two steps back :stuck_out_tongue: Initially it looked good, faded olive drab really satisfied me, but then I decided to push forward with some delicate sanding, fading blue colours…

Now I need :

  1. repaint most of olive drab, I don’t like this “scratchy” look

  2. find some masks and repaint US insignia, as blue decided to run all over place…

Bugger me… this year doesn’t start good :frowning:

Radek, That sucks! Sorry to hear that.

I think the Olive Drab looks great. Maybe that is just me, but a lot of aircraft looked really worn really quick.

On the other hand I agree with you on the blue. It is probably necessary with a touch up.

Thanks, Jesper. I need to be more careful… someday

Ok made some corrections. I managed to correct insignia on top wing quite okay..ish.. small corrections with olive drab mix also sorted out most troubling areas.

But markings on hull sides didn’t go easily … they fought to the end. at the end I used some spare decals from old Eduard kit I never finished… They’re slighlty undersized and look crappy, but better than my “paintings”

So it now looks like that:

erm…

I mean that:

Great fix on the markings. Looks very good!

Thanks Jesper.

I moved a little bit forward and added sooting on exhausts.

Unfortunately there was another… disaster :stuck_out_tongue: The canopy front separated from the main body and I had to use CA to stabilize it. I smoothed the finish and joint, but the result of using CA on clear parts was inevitably obvious… fogging… So I have a fogged canopy and this is rather unrecoverable at this stage…\

Hi Radek, for glueing clear parts I recommend Microscale Kristal Klear.

No fogging, dries clear and can be painted.

Hi mates, after being happy about the extension till end of January, disaster struck…

Slipped on an icy spot, fell and broke my thigh bone :upside_down_face:

Will be back at my bench middle of March probably. Could’ve been worse, surgery successful, but now I have to bail out from HOTM 2025.

Plenty of projects for Hangar Queen this year!

Take care mates

Cheers Peter

Sorry to hear that Peter :frowning: I hope you’ll recover soon !

I usually do that, but this time the part disconnected and neither Kristal Klear (I actually use contacta clear or the one from VMS) or even Tamya cement couldn’t hold that. CA appeared to me like an only option… and here’s what I’ve got :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok, I’m calling the Airacobra done. End of struggle, time to move on to Gotha

Sorry to hear that, Peter. Hope you recover fast. Happy the surgery went well. Spring is not that far away, so come March we should hopefully be rid of the snow and ice.

Radek, great result for a kit that fought you all the way. I really like the faded worn look. Congrats on finishing!

@SGTJKJ Thank you, I’m quite well now, mustn’t use my left leg, but I’m in good care and exercising with crutches. I think I can look forward to visit EME 26 at Lingen :crossed_fingers:

Radek, I like your finished Airacobra a lot, well done! For me it looks very realistic, with the conditions in the Pacific. Looks like after a week during rain season and a lot of missions :+1::+1:

Here is my finished entry: Star Wars Legion Range Troopers. They are 28mm or roughly 1/48 scale.

They best belong in a snow storm on a grav train :slightly_smiling_face: But since my army is forest based they had to go into the forest. :slightly_smiling_face:

There is a bit more than a week left of the extension - after this I will make a list of participants that completed the campaign to see if I missed anybody. After this I submit for medals.

With the extension, I was able to complete the Eduard 1/48 P-51B:

No question in my mind that this is the best P-51B out there. Detail and engineering are excellent. I only really had two issues, one was my fault and one is Eduard’s. I lost both gear leg doors. Found one of them, but not the other, so I had to swipe one from an old Tamiya build. Level of detail is not as good, but it looks OK if you don’t look too closely. The Eduard issue is a decal problem. They provide nice clear pieces and masks for the under wing ID lights, but no national insignia with holes for the lights. You have to cut those out yourself, which can be tough if you don’t have a punch set (which I don’t).

Overall, very happy with it.

Michael, great to see the Mustang across the finish line. What a beauty! I have a number of these in my stash and really looking forward to building them!

Congrats on finishing! :slightly_smiling_face:

No luck on finishing my 2 Leo’s even with the extension. Caught up in way too much lately. But is what it is.
