How close is too close?

So… how do you avoid midair collisions? You maintain a 1000 feet of vertical separation.
How close was he? Just finished a firing pass and flew under the He 111 prop.

There are some videos out there of gun camera footage and it’s impressive how close the two aircraft are

Reminds me of the technique to tilt the V1 missiles (buzz bombs) by flipping one of their wingtips.

Well, when one wing is larger than the largest circle in your target reticle, he’s quite in range…

Intentional and organised ramming by German pilots wasn’t done until close to the German capitulation in May 1945.
Accidental ramming did happen on all fronts, especially when two fighter planes were trying to out-maneuver each other.
Soviet pilots on the eastern front did it intentionally.

The aircraft was piloted to a safe landing at its base, and despite the damage, none of the crew was injured.

Amazing ! If it had been a B 24 the outcome would likely have been different.
I would assume poor elevator response…

A few inches to the side or forward/aft and it would probably have been like the recent B-17/P-63 collision.
