Hypothetical - what if M103A2 in service with the IDF - Israeli Defence Force

I missed this the first time around but I’m sure on it now. Very good idea, execution good too.

Really shaping up nicely Thomas.

Thank you
This is my first “what if” model, and I am having so much fun with it. I do want my “Magach 8” to appear similar to the real Magach 6B Gal, so I take great pains to make all details similar to what I can see on the Magach 6B Gal.

Consider using sandbags to fill gaps (for asthetic purposes) if you can’t get all of those ERA tiles on.

Thanks for the tip, I intend to hang some gear in the stowage racks on the turret sides, like in this picture.

Looks solid, I look forward to seeing the finished product.

It’s been too long since my last update. This kit stays with a friend of mine, so I only build on it, when I am at his place. Yesterday I worked on the fenders, left side was attached, and the right side got more parts attached. Turret is just on for show. It is slowly beginning to look like a tank

Keep at it Thomas - coming along just fine!

Looks great and you’d better go round more often because I sure like it, so more updates are welcome :+1:

Time for another update. During the past month, I have been focusing on the hull. The etched parts are from the Yoyager M103A1 set. I had to remind myself several times, etched parts are fun. There are all in all 8 handles for the four fender boxes. Oh well…

Good to see more progress on the Super Magach!

Thank you for your interest. It is a very rewarding though also demanding project. I really like these mixed media builds, where every part is assessed in relation to its ability to provide that extra detail.
And on a side note. Just because an etched part is provided, doesn’t mean it makes sense to use it

Good to see this one still chugging along!

Thank you @Terry1954
One of the things, which I had not considered before I began this project is how long time it takes to adapt parts for use on my model. An example, the two Balzer ERA blocks on the fender. I can see in pictures of the real thing, that the blocks are not flush with the fender, there is a short (1 cm is my guess) distance between the block and the fender. So I have to compare the distance, cut a piece of plastic card in the right size (it must not be visisible) and then glue the block to the fender. The small block next to the large one was right for the size, but not similar to the large one. So I have to make it look like the large one. The same goes for the blocks on the front hull, and of course the turret.
Also, since the Dragon M103A2 kit is such a POS, I also have to consider every part from that kit. How faulty is it, can I find a substitute, will the faults be seen, when the model is finished, and are there alternatives?
The Legend resin parts are the easy ones in this equation. They just have to be cleaned up and attached. Oh well, we do this for fun

Just a small update this time. I’m currently working on the front hull, and adapting etched parts takes a long time, so small steps forward.

The two rows of Blazer ERA bricks are now complete, and the base brackets for the front lights are in place. So far, so good. The front light you can see, is just blue tacked on, its final destination is of course the bracket.

Next step is the rear of the hull, more etched brackets and handles. Etched parts are so much fun

Inspiration for these steps are pictures of the Pereh, since the hulls of the M48 and the M103 are quite similar.

Stay tuned for the next update

The IDF M48-based Pereh missile launcher. A beast in its own right.

I have been contemplating a what if M103A2 myself in IDF service just recently. I have always liked it as well but think OD green is boring and have a kind of self imposed limit to my modeling of middle east subjects, to try to keep my stash under control and I have a fascination with all things IDF.

I didn’t see this thread until today but it has upped my desire to build one too.

I’m leaning more towards a YKW version which would involve a lot fewer modifications than yours but still allow for some IDF personality. I will definitely be going with a Takom kit as base :joy::+1:

Glad I saw this. Always get inspiration from the great modelers on this site
