Hello fellow modelers.
You may know me as cbaltrin from other forums but I decided on modeler_redoit for my screen name for this site. I was looking at a model kit box the other day, and saw the prolific text on the side: Modele Reduit and it reminded me of how I always saw that on kits as a kid and never knew what it meant, but in my head, I always read it as Modeler Redo It, so I thought that would make a good screen name for a model builder and so here we are…
I have heard good things about this community so I thought I would check it out.
I currently live in the Detroit area and I started modeling in the mid 1980’s. My earliest memories of the hobby are of the Monogram kits such as the B-17G, A-1 Skyraider and P-47 bubbletop, the Revell 1/32 109G , P-40E and P-51B for a few–and of course the Testors Silver Plated P-51D Moonbeam Mc Swine!
I build mostly military aircraft. Favorite Genres are WW2 allied and axis a/c. I love a pretty blue nosed P-51 as well as a Mottled up Messerschmitt, and when I can figure out the right cockpit color, I’ve been know to knock out a few Nakajimas, Mitsubishis and even a Kawanishi now and then. Korea was never my thing (unless we are talking F4U-5Ns that is). So, after WW2, I skip a few decades and then my interest lie Vietnam Era subjects and US Navy jets through the end of the Gull Grey and White era…
I tend to enjoy vintage kits–Monogram, Airfix, old Revel USA – you know, raised panel line jobs. I don’t care for the complexity and high parts count of modern toolings, but I do not shun them entirely and do dabble in Tamiya, Arma Hobby and the other ‘modern’ stuff.
But wait, there’s more! A few years ago I suddenly grew tired of painting with Olive Drabs and RLMs. I discovered pretty colors with metal flakes in them! I found that a model (other than a P-51) could be pretty and shiny! I picked up an AMT 1967 Chevy Impala SS at the LHS (mostly because of the box art, which as most know, is the most important aspect of a kit ) and built my first auto model.
So, that’s a little about me. I look forward to interacting with you guys (and gals?) in the following days weeks and years. I hope I can add something to the discussion.
Chris
