Chaps, gentlemen prefer blondesā¦
57 here and falling apart, wear varifocals as Iām short sighted but take them off to model. Eye checks showed small amounts of bleeding in the right eye (type 2 diabetes) but not getting worse or better, taking a statin but also have Barrets oesophagus and GERD which rules out any spicy food, most sauces, mustard, caffeine, citrus, alcohol and fizzy drinks. Now going through checks for heart disease.
Get a tremor in my left thumb or sometimes index finger but it can be days or even weeks between attacks, also left hand grip strength has gone, which causes a few issues at work trying to hold a screwdriver.
Several years ago tore the front muscle in my right shoulder, Dr gave me loads of med but just had to walk around with my arm flopping around until it healed as the only way to lift it was with my other hand. Healed now but does occasionally still cause an issue especially in the cold.
Other than that all good.
I have to say that besides the enjoyable sidetrack on beer drinking this is the most depressing post Iāve ever read on a modeling site,
Depressing ? Perhaps or enlightening ? This is the reality of aging . When troubled I have always placated my self by comparative analysis. It helps to know what others of your generation are experiencing. Got to keep your sense of humor best you can .
Thing is I can identify w/most of the issues here plus a few others of my own. My take is that at 72 my life experiences probably should have killed me a few times over. I greatly appreciate the fact that I am vertical and breathing each morning. Though I may be challenged in many ways that means that each day I can find something to enjoy, even if it is only planning how I will achieve the next step in the process. As I tell my wife, today is the best that I will feel for the rest of my life so I might as well enjoy it.
Gentlemen this sums it up.
Iām no gentleman.
Well, I didnāt want to sayā¦(!)
But a beer at 6% - well, whatās not to like?
No. I went to Iraq with a Reservd MP unit from Newport News, VA.
I was there in 2003. Right before Saddam was pulled out of hit rathole in Tikrit.
Never accused you of being one.
Iām 58 and back to wearing glasses to read and drive. Bad neck from a car wreck 33 years ago, bad hip and knee from aging. But I can see, I can still assemble models, and I can play with my granddaughter so life is pretty good. Never gonna finish my stash tho.
I always give the benefit of the doubt.
Oh man. I met my wife in '77. She was an 18 year old college freshman, long brunette hair down to her tail and long legs. I was a 24 year old mill rat who finally had some money in the bank and was coming back to try and finish off my last year. I am a lucky S_B since we are still together and she is still taller then me. Another reason to enjoy life and appreciate each day.
Totally agree Richard, I think far from being depressing this threadās both humbling and inspiring learning what some of ye assembled brethren are coping with ā my hatās off & I salute you all. And thereās a million or more guys in worse shape than we are who canāt even type for whatever reason. And if weād been born as recently as 50 years earlier than we were, maybe a third of us wouldnāt have lived as long already, and another third wouldnāt be in as relatively good condition as we are.
We should all rejoice - itās better to be over the hill than under itā¦
James Brown has nothing on him!
This has been an extremely helpful thread for me. Yesterday I took my wife to the health club, enrolled her, and signed her up with a trainer to teach her to do dead lifts. I figure in a couple of months sheāll be able to lift me up when Iām stuck in the carpet monster after searching for that part.
