Hypothetically speaking of course, a friend maybe worked at a place and one day he went back to a different department around say, 10:45 a.m. Allegedly of course.
And in this totally fictional tall tale, a 20ish girl behind him in this story sat on her phone watching a movie.
Then in this totally fictional tale imaginary workplace which could never exist with things that could never happen, her boyfriend may have left his work area and visited her. They may have hugged and then started making out. Right behind this friend, like could be two feet behind him in the fictional story.
And the friend probably thought, WTF, and then, no, wait, donât do that!
Then the girlâs boyfriend maybe sat down on the floor and did nothing. Then maybe someone came around and made him go into a different department. We donât know since this is all totally made up.
Then the girl literally (all femalesâ favorite word in the world), but yeah, literally stared into space until quitting time.
THE END of the fictional story that never happened.
Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.
Noelh both our sons have worked for years. They are college educated but do not think like that young lady, Our younger one (33 yrs old) is better at thinking critically then the older one (39 years old). Both are Conservative in outlook. Because they are live in NY and Virginia, at times it is hard for them to find women who think in a conservative way.
We shall see what happens in the coming years.
"Our youth now love luxury, they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders, and they love to chatter instead of exercise. Children are now tyrants not servants of their household. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.â
The well known, Socrates quote.
One day, around aged 14 or 15, a young teacher swept into our classroom. He was trendy looking in a seventies way complete with long hair and long locks. He read that piece to my class.
We laughed as he explained it was written by Socrates thousands of years ago but the laughter was stifled when he went on to say that some people think nothing has changed and launched into a diatribe that young people âthese daysâ are different and worse. Thatâs us by the way. Why he attacked my class is puzzling because we were high achievers.
The country I live in now is run by us.
So when I hear complaints about âyoung people nowadaysâ. Iâm not convinced.
But are we getting it right?
We canât blame the young people for our current situation.
The âcurrent situationâ is the best, most prosperous situation humanity has ever had in its entire existence. Yet, thereâs definitely room for improvements.
Please blame the older generations and ancestors for todayâs prosperity. Then figure out what you, the younger generations will do to contribute to continue the upward trend!
A little sidebar: My daughter is 16, 4.7 GPA. Also a talented musician and self-taught artist.
Just about every day, she receives mail from colleges and universities. Sheâs already been scouted by and met with staff from an elite university.
This past week, she received something from West Point. I told her, âYou might consider this.â
It occurred to me this forum would be a very good place to ask for thoughts and opinions.
I donât want to hijack, so if you prefer, PM me.
But itâs also perhaps worth mentioning that there are some decent kids out there. They just fly under the radar as they arenât causing trouble, slacking off, etc.
Iâd tell her to apply for the nomination. I did. I got alternate nominations to both West Point and Annapolis. I was told if I went to the âBread and Butterâ school *(prep school) I was almost guaranteed the primary nomination the next year. I did the math, and figured Iâd be almost thirty by the time I finished my commitment, One could argue it was a mistake not going. The arc of my life certainly has been different. I think about it from time to time - SF tab or West Point ring. Ultimately I think things turned out for the best. The job offers I get because of that green piece of felt are ridiculous sometimes.
Maybe Apache26 (Travis) will see this. Heâs a West Point grad.
Have we totally forgotten the mid-sixties onwards? The folks then, that were around our age now, were rending their clothes & gnashing their teeth about The Younger Generation â useless, selfish, ungrateful, irresponsible, disrespectful of the older generation, promiscuous, anarchic, stoned out of their minds etc. It was the End of the World for them (the WW2 generation), they thought we were the scum of the Earth. For my grandmother, the last straw was that not even tomatoes tasted as good as when she was young. So she smoked herself to death along with many of her generation â because it was so cool to smoke when they were young â while she railed against all the young drug addicts.
Imagine what they wouldâve said about us if weâd also had phones/internet back then.
Getting old involves accelerating amnesia of all the crap, and preservation of rose-tinted memories. The young will always be the young, every generation. Just different toys.
As with my kids, we started with what do you want and what does your career look like for you.
My sons both asked at around the same age privately if they had to go into the Marines or military and answer was if thatâs what you want to do for yourself. Regardless of whatever I say or what they promise you have to want it cause at some point doing basic and other times that want is what gets you the storm you will find yourself in and cause thatâs what dad wants or x dollars is not going to help. If she wants to make the Army a career then being a ring knocker wonât hurt.
Going on a tour later this month at a local college I dislike sports wise but if itâs best for my daughter career wise for her to transfer then so be it.
