Thanks John, did a set up today, and noticed I ave room for a few more
Lol … Keep them coming
Hello, after a one month break, my orev ist ready for paint:
I’ve played with my 3D printer and found a couple of interesting items on cults 3D.
I’ll add a couple of empty canister holder on the front shock absorber
@ReluctantRenegade I am trying to figure out markings on tanks and I am still confused. What I have got thus far:
If I understand this correctly and by order of size we have:
Brigade usually a sign at the back?
Battalion - barrel rings
Company - Chevron orientation
Platoon - Letter (aleph, bet, gimel, dalet)
Tank - number after the letter
Here is what confuses me. What is the marking on the front right fender, that usually has lines added and I guess the brigade marking is on the front left fender?
Looks like I’m gonna miss this deadline too. Too many irons in the modeling fire.
C’mon… you have 25 days left.
And only 3 builds…
Nothing IDF even started. My AML 60 is in Kenyan markings.
You and me both. But I do plan (best laid or otherwise) to, at the very least, upload pics and a few notes of the build thus far before the end date. But, who knows, I may finish the beast (Meng Merkava III baz w/mine rollers) in time… but I doubt it.
My target tank is almost ready - pics to come maybe this weekend. I had the strangest feeling, spraying the tracks solid black - I know I’m matching a museum paint job but un-weathered tracks just feel so… unnatural!
Only 2 weeks to finish for me as I am going on holidays. Have to get my digit out.
CO (and sometimes XO vehicles) of companies, battalions and brigades usually have a large, unofficial (sometimes rather artistic) sign on the rear turret basket of their respective units.
Correct. One ring for the 1st battalion, two for the 2nd, and so on, in a given brigade.
Correct.
The other way around: the digit marks the platoon (usually from 1 to 3, sometimes more), the letters Alef and Bet mark tanks of the junior and senior TC, respectively. Company command vehicles are marked with Gimel (CO) and Dalet (XO), without numbers.
The number of the company within the battalion (one horizontal stripe for 1st company, two for the 2nd, and so on).
Correct, and right-rear too.
Ok, so in the following photos
we have:
3rd Battalion
1st company
but the Gimels and numbers are confusing.
Edit: The first tank with the gimel is the Company’s CO and the tank with the Dalet near the end is the XO. The single number tanks are Platoon Commanders, so the tank with 1 is the tank of the commander of the 1st platoon and the 2 is the tank of the commander of the 2nd platoon.
Correct. Single Gimels and Dalets are always company command vehicles (CO and XO, respectively). Tanks marked with single digits (1,2,3, sometimes 4) are always platoon leaders’ vehicles.
Great job, guys!
While I have the lower side gray and upper side brown on the Meteor, all work has stopped while SWMBO has had me gut the model room and reorganize it. I doubt I’ll have it done in time to resume this model. Sigh. So goes “real life”.
Michael
Battalions are numbered: my former outfit, the 77th Battalion, is the 2nd battalion of the 7th Brigade, that’s why its tanks have two rings painted on their barrels.
Many model manufacturers get the unit description wrong: they would write something like “3-Bet vehicle, 3rd Platoon, Vav (V) Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Brigade”, when in fact it should be “3-Bet vehicle, Vav (V) Company, 77th Battalion, 7th Brigade”.
2nd battalion isn’t the unit’s real designation, but rather its serial number within the 7th Brigade. Nobody ever refers to the 77th as the “2nd Battalion” of the 7th, but rather by its official IDF number.
Looks great!
Nice build.
