I'm a Movie Star Group Build

Is this something in England? Never heard of it…and I thought Girls und Panzer was strange.

I think that it was Spielberg on acid… :face_with_spiral_eyes:

While we are on the topic of helicopters, I thought this would be a good time for me to commit to my build. I am planning on building a USCG Mi-24V (Hind-E) used in the Russian movie “Charged with Death” . My guess is that the US Coast Guard was not willing to lend the Russian filmmakers one of their rescue helicopters! :joy: Here’s a still shot from the movie.

While it would be easy to cobble together the decals from the different USCG decal sheets out there, Syhart made it easy by making a decal sheet specifically for this Russian USCG rescue helicopter. I have not built a helicopter in quite a few years, so I figured why not? My other choice was either Oddball’s Sherman or German tank from Kelly’s Heroes. I have the conversion kits for both but thought this would be a bit different.

I need to get some other builds off my bench and then I’ll post the starting photo and build photos.

Have fun modeling!
Mike

James and the Giant peach?

Roald Dahl wrote all these books that they turned into film.

Oh, very nice…and obscure. That will be fun!

I’m sure the US Coast Guard would have loved something armed to the teeth. Imagine this in red and white:

“We need it to keep the sharks away from the people we are rescuing Sir!”

Willy Wonka is the only one I have seen, the original, not the remake with Johnny Depp. I did see a porn parody of James and the Giant Peach though, many years ago.

It’s a pity no-one filmed his first published work, an article for The Saturday Evening Post and erroneously renamed by that magazine “Shot Down over Libya” (he had been sent to the wrong location, ran out of fuel and crashed while making a forced landing: the injuries he sustained would eventually end his flying career). Remarkably, after several months in hospital and rehabilitation he was passed as fit to fly and in the eight or so months before he was sent home due to the effects of his injuries he made ace with five kills (all confirmed post war); Wikipedia only lists three Ju88s and a Vichy French Potez 630 but it is possibly his total was actually higher than five as he was involved in the “Battle of Athens” (20 April 1941) a dogfight so confused and intense it is impossible to say who shot down what. It’s a shame the tale was never made into a movie as it would be nice to build the Gladiator he crashed or the Hurricanes he subsequently flew.

Cheers,

M

I’ve been meaning to read ‘Going Solo’ for years. He led an interesting life.
I’ve always wanted George’s Marvellous Medicine to be turned into a bit screen adaption, that would be a lot of fun!

Maybe, Dahl is a staple of British childhood. Even know!

Anyway, here’s the scene from the 1989 animated version of The BFG I was thinking of. The Chinooks enter about half way through.

I’m more familiar with this version than Spielberg’s recent version. We had it on VHS growing up and I still remember vividly the first time it was shown at Christmas on British TV.

I think in many ways the Hind makes more sense for CG use as they would have the firepower to deal with any threat plus insert troops/rescue at the same time if needed. I guess a H-60 version could work as well but that gun could sink a narco sub itself. Hate to say it but the Hind also looks better then the Viper, imho. Too much hanging off this design.

Well, as McRunty is doing the Enterprise, Jr., how about the REAL star of the 2019 Midway movie? The USS Enterprise, CV-6:

I was so close to doing this kit as I have her and the Pontos set in the stash. But CVN-65 has been in the stash longer.

Good Lord, the Prontos set? That’s past my level, I’m afraid. I plan to use the kit photo-etch with back up from the GMM Hornet set and the old Nautilus conversion, but that’s about it. I hope it will turn out well, I already know the kit is really in Santa Cruz configuration and I’m backdating to Midway, but I think I have what I need.

Outstanding Michael. Really nice choice. Glad to see you on board - the more the merrier!

And here I was happy that a couple of guys were doing ships/subs.

I think my Humber scout car will be greatly overshadowed by the sheer size of these builds.

We have figures, busts, cars, aircraft, armour, ships and subs. What a great amount of variety.

Will be joining this campaign… with something from this movie:

Big Red One

will have to get some decalls first…

And finally dug out the kit.

Thinking about how to display it. Might have a look in Railway scenery to see if I can find a carpark with a disabled bay.
