Inaugural Railway Campaign

Thanks to John and Richard for the supportive comments, they’re much appreciated, :+1: :slightly_smiling_face:. Howeer, I have to admit that i wasn’t entirely happy with the cobbles, colour-wise, so have spent the last day reworking them,

Before:

After:

It probably doesn’t show up too well above, but instead of swipes of colour across the surface of the cobbles I’ve painted the cobbles individually, but randomly in one of four slightly different shades, it hopefully shows up better on the close-ups below, .

Firstly, my apologies for not responding sooner Tim, and secondly, thanks for all the great information provided in your feedback regarding debris and dirt alongside railway track, :+1: :slightly_smiling_face:.

Certainly no apology needed from you with regards the in-depth level of information provided, it’s all great and informative, and certainly very useful, so thank you again for taking the time to respond, :+1: :slightly_smiling_face:.

Your scratchbuilt ‘shunting loco’ is really coming together nicely Kosprueone, really looking forward to seeing how this one pans out, :+1: :slightly_smiling_face:.

Your re-treatmeant of the cobblestones looks excellent. It’s amazing how a few individually colored bricks make the whole scene explode with interest. It also looks like you’ve muted the colors a little bit, did you?

I’m really getting interested in trying to create a little harbor scene for myself now. You are inspirational.

The variations in the new tones on each cobble has definitely enhanced it G and the close up shows it wonderfully. It’s surprising how a slight change of tack can totally alter the appearance of something. Have any of the other vehicles been sourced yet ? Were you doing a small vessel for the water … Can’t remember… ??

I’m beginning to regret not doing so, especially as it would have helped get my last shipment up to the post-free level. But I had loftier ambitions, and an ill conceived archaeological expedition into the Deep Stash this morning proved a disaster with several built-but-not-painted items being destroyed in the process while not locating what I was looking for. This was immediately followed by the arrival of the package which would have contained the harbour…
So it looks as if that my contribution to this build (if any) will be some sort of fantasy locomotive after all.

M

Thanks to Fred, John and Tim for both their invaluable advice and positive feedback on this build, :+1: :slightly_smiling_face:.

Fred, I felt that the quay walls were too much of a contrast, so well spotted, yes, I’ve tried to soften the difference, :slightly_smiling_face:, though time will tell whether it works, .

I’ve done that before Tom, wasn’t sure about a product, then regretted not buying it, :unamused:.

I recall some of your earlier posts of fantasy/steampunk locos, and would like to see you do something along those (railway) lines, :slightly_smiling_face:.

Hi all,

Cut out the building apertures and applied some DAS yesterday evening.

And have now started engraving the stonework…this is going to be time consuming, :pensive:.

Sorry John, missed your questions,.

I have the old Airfix RAF Emergency set in my stash, so thinking I might use the ambulance, maybe in a Royal Navy colours if they did in fact use them,.

The boat is proving elusive, I only have a small area of ‘water’, so it can’t be too big, nor too expensive, so the search goes on, :slightly_smiling_face:.

You can probably get away with the ambulance being in Army or Air Force colours, as if you think about all these hundreds of small harbours that were used throughout the war would of called on any units near at hand if an ambulance was needed…so in all likelihood, there would of been more army and RAF units closer. If you imagine a rescued pilot being brought to land in mid Cornwall, there would of been about 10 plus RAF sites near at hand…

Although it is a long laborious task in doing all the stone scribe work G, the effect of it all visually once finished is outstanding :+1::+1:

Hi folks, I have been busy with work and vacation not very much modeling. But now I am back on track:)
I am working on two different scenarios, not sure which one I will go for yet.

  1. Is the Italian (North Africa) scenario you seen before.
  2. Is a new scenario using a tank to the left, probably an Elefant on the eastern front. There will be figures in both scenarios of course.

Here is the two mock-ups:

You’re welcome to say which one you prefer.
Cheers

I really like number 2 with the dual stations.

Damn… You go away… Then come back and give us impossible choices lol…
Well, I’m edging towards 2 … The Elefant looks very cool like that…

But the first scenario has equally good merits…a not so typical desert based theme…

Ok… No2 is my choice … I think

G, apologies to you and everybody else. There have been quite a few posts recently and I was just scrolling through them on my phone in the summary email. I apologize I have read every single one of them, let alone in detail. Question about vehicles and a small Bissell? I like the idea of the RAF ambulance. From what I’ve seen, there’s almost always one of those 3-ton Chevrolets 4 one of those smaller trucks that the British used on airfields a lot, they seem to be ubiquitous. My idea about a seagoing vessel is Lindbergh oh, you going to look up one of their old models, they have a tugboat that’s I think 1/83rd or 1/84th. Slightly too big for HO and slightly small for 00-1/76th. All the same, I doubt anybody could really tell. However there is a vendor oh, Rusty rail, who does a lot of resin castings of scenery items, including small boats. I have a couple of his castings in 1/48 scale, but I haven’t looked to see if he has HO scale bosts yet. I also vaguely remember that Lindberg or Aurora had a landing craft of some sort of that was roughly HO scale.

Oh yes, I just remembered. Artitec. They make 1:87 scale vessels. Including this Coastal Tramp. It’s probably far more pricey than you would like to spend, but it is available.

Thanks for the heads-up on this company, it’s a pity they seem to be carrying so little stock of interesting items. I thought G-man69 had posted the dimensions of his wet area but I can’t find them now, but I recall they were quite constrained. This would have been O.K. (at a pinch) for Dunkirk:

as would this (if small enough):

(Ever heard of the “Marchioness” Disaster? What the Luftwaffe couldn’t achieve was done by a barge nearly half-a-century later!)
With my steampunk fad running at full strength I couldn’t help but be seriously impressed by this:

Canal steam tug and the passenger ship, very tempting. Artitec makes nice models.
