Infantry tank, A11 Matilda MkIV. Another 3D printing adventure

Add a little extra material so that there is a margin to sand down??

Some extra work at assembly or a part printed with lower resolution?
I think I would prefer the high resolution and do some sanding and fitting.
The sanding/fitting will be a LOT easier than trying to do anything about
low resolution of the vent grilles …

Ah well. tried again, didn’t work.

I’ll have a go at separating the whole top of the airbox next.

In the meantime, 1/72 turret test.

one with smoke launchers in place, one without, to see which prints best.

SO close to done.

Question for British armour buffs: I’ve been unable to find decent pictures of periscopes that would be typical to the mid/late war period. Just about everything I find contradicts every other. Should they have a wee rectangular hat or not? Also I’m assuming that by this stage most vehicle tools were stowed in the bins? If not, what tools would you normally see?

Hi Mousemuffins
Can’t give you much in the way of an overview, but I happened across these a few years back which might be useful?

There are a few more, but look pretty similar to me. Yell if you want them.

oh. those are perfect. Look like there WAS some variation in the hood. I think I’ll go with the middle one.

Churchill and Cromwell both had pioneer tools on the exterior. Churchill VII had them on the rear deck, Cromwell had a pick and shovel on the right rear and a pry bar left rear (when facing the vehicle).

I would say however that for a two man tank such as this, especially at 1/72 you could get away with “in the bin”.

Hooray! better references found. Periscopes improved. Nearly ready for a final run at this.

Is there a mount for an antenna or will there be a walkie talkie.

Hmmm. What sort of antenna mount would it have? I’m thinking it would be a hull mounted radio, with the mount on the right hand side of the hull, where it would fill a space nicely. May be prone to being shot off though.

One location would be the right side above the rear fender near the lifting hook. Not prone to be shot off there. You could run a conduit up the right side until it gets to the crew compartment.

Last couple of turret details.

Pistol port and Fire extinguisher.

yeah, but what kind of antenna? I know practically zero about british ww2 radios. Need something typical for mid-late war.

This sort of thing? That’s a number 19 I think…

Also, do I need more than one? are receivers a different antenna than for a transmitter?

Edit: no.19 was a transceiver. solves that issue…

ta dah!

The exhaust would be glowing cherry red. Would there be a cover to prevent them from being seen at night?

Jerry cans?

Nice antenna.

Didn’t the No.19 set use two antennas? One to send, and one to receive. So one like what you added to the right rear, and a cone-shaped one like Topsmith showed - put it on the left rear.
