Italeri Land Rover kit - how good is it?

My LHS stocks the Italeri Land Rover 109 kit. How good is it in terms of authencity? I found only a set of replacement reson wheels. Found a pic of a “Landy” from a medical unit that has two petrol cans installed before the front grille.

I found the kit - or rather its Revell iteration - very good. It needed a couple of tweaks such as the wheels and some detailing on the canvas, such as apertures for a radio fit, and straps on the rear.

My version (and this is a historical picture now as it came to grief when it fell off a shelf (I nearly cried!):

Showing the straps at the rear.

Love that model Brian and need to get one- how is the Revell edition compared to the Italeri?

Well, thanks.

I’m pretty sure it’s one and the same kit, but I haven’t checked Scalemates etc.

Hi Richard,
RoG kits are just re-boxings of the Italeri kit.

I’ve been on a spending binge lately and it will continue with this model I’m afraid lol.

Several years ago I have also built the reboxed Italeri Land Rover. Revell had 4 options of decals (2 x GB, 1 x NL and 1 x DK). I wanted to go for the danish version but Revell was so clever to have only a right side steering wheel and dash board inside … So I went for the BAOR option.

I liked it. I built two. They also did this one:

I used the GPMG’s out of it for a large scale IDF build. Unfortunately they suffered from knock out pin marks on the receivers. Tough spot to get them out.

Brian do you remember which set of after market wheels you used ?

I always liked this one, or at least the box art; it was typical of those that patrolled the Berlin Wall and the IGB. I’d always thought about converting one (in 1:35). Firing Line provide the radio racking in etch in one of their vehicle accessory sets, and the TUM boxes (on the wings). Other stuff would have to be scratched but I don’t think it would take that much.

See the image here, behind the Ferret (filched off the WWW):

Thinking about it, that would be a nice little duo in 1:35.

Nice model - where’d you get that figure of a young Pvt Stoddard?..

I do: Accurate Armour. There are others out there now such as FC Modeltrend; probably some more.

If you slice off the wheel nuts and reposition them correctly, you might be able to use the kit wheels. Just a thought.

Lance Corporal puh-leese!

It’s a Firing Line one, in white metal but a really good casting. I think I replaced the head with one from Hornet.

The whole vignette was described way back when on the site in around 2020 I think; it depicted me having a brew after completing my ablutions, after a somewhat frenetic evening quaffing bottles of German wine (hence the upturned chairs and empties I’m afraid).

We were then based in UK but had deployed to BAOR for Exercise Summer Sales; as always it had been pretty arduous stuff, but I was in my element, being suitable genned up with a mass of knowledge including being able to map mark (back then one of the more arcane arts, normally only undertaken by officers or the Int Corps). I had recently failed a re-badge into said corps but was possessed of some of their craft; they’d also taught me to drive, which back in the day, not every soldier could, so I was sort of quite valuable as it were. Anyway, somehow I got up the Chief Clerk’s nose during the exercise and he left me off the return manifest so I had to travel back a couple of days later with an AAC unit. I knew one of their Corporals so we decided to get suitably smashed and did.

The model also shows, in addition to empty bottles, the contents of the Rover and trailer, in which lies all sorts of impedimenta, only used by Clerks! You saw it here first folks - or rather, back in 2020:

I never saw a Landy in Berlin, but then I didn’t get to see everything. That would indeed be cool. I’m doing my Ferret escorting Erwin Schabe to school while he rides his bicycle… Thre kit even has the correct bumper number.
For those who may have missed it in the Ferret thread, Erwin Schabe confessed years later that the VOPO hadn’t really harassed him - he just didn’t want to go to school that day,

That’s quite funny as it even got accelerated up the chain of command with the Berlin Infantry Brigade commander being dragged out to congratulate the boy, all in the name of good anti-Sov PR I’m sure. If only he knew - or perhaps he did; never let the truth get in the way of some good PR!

I have built some along the years and in general it still holds well after such a long mould life. New wheels will help a lot to enhance the looks, specially the DEF ones. AA has/had a couple of sets but sadly nor the quality of the master nor the moulding are up to today’s standards.

As there have been some different releases and parts swapping, you could find LHD and RHD versions, with the side air intake grille moved accordingly. To me, worst and most evident error are the rear wheel arches, as the correct shape should be just like the front ones, not a mirror image of these. Once you check and compare with the real thing it’s something will allways jump when looking at.

If you like Landies, would recommend to also try the recent AK releases. Accurate and ultra detailed, these are the earlier Series 2A 88", maybe a bit fiddly to build with so many little parts in some areas, but the end result is fantastic and they offer quite a big selection of versions and finish options.

Good luck!

Funny seeing this thread tonight. I just order the Italeri 1/24 Land Rover Fire Truck kit from eBay couple off nights ago. Cannot wait to see it in flesh and I’ll sure to grab some resin wheels. Do you guys know if there is any PE set out there to detail it up?

Might ended up converting it into something. I saw these arts on Pinterest and started an itch…
