Same horse team and riders in the Riich field kitchen kit plus the steel army wagon one.
The harnesses are very close to accurate.

Began making stowage for the crew and re-posed the second “wheel horse”. Front horse is Riich and back one is MB. Riich has far more accurate harness. I will have to tweek the MB one. So the initial putty is on the horses
and while that cures I will move onto the next horse team in front of these 2.
I ran into my first issue with Riich horses. The saddle is molded way too far back, like one would ride a donkey. The right side horse is corrected and still underway. This will add time to the project for sure considering 6 horses involved.
Here is a clear pic of the correct position on another horse. The saddle should line up with the belly band You may notice the missing back portion of the harness. Since this is a “lead horse” team the rerar portion was sometimes not used as it was superfluous.
Enjoying your latest J, awesome subject matter.
I’ve always had a true appreciation for the horse’s use in the military, but
especially the American mules sent over to the Western Front in WWI.
A fascinating part of history. As is usual Jerry, I’m following along.
Cheers
Dave🙂
Glad you enjoyed it Dave. Thanks for following buddy.

I ran out of Riich saddles and had to dig out some Dragon ones. Problem is they are about 1/32 scale compared to the Riich version. More work for me. You can see the excellent Dragon PE sets on the bottom. The Riich is on top. The bellybands and the stirrups are specially nice as well as the mouth bits.
The first 4 horses are in the final poses and engaged in putty work.
Worked on one of the lead horses and made my own saddle using the top part from a Dragon version. The rest is putty. Added the kit for mounted troops but put the saddlebags at the back on this one.
What’s the expression? Like putty in your hands…
Looking good Jerry.
Knocked together this hap last night. Dragon guy with shoulders narrowed as well as his waist. Undercutting. Alpine head on top. Still needs shoulder straps.
Excellent modifications and great to see it all evolving. Watch out for the mold lines on that right hand horse ![]()
He looks determined.
Gotta get the limber up to the guns right quick.

Sorry Jerry, late to this one; I offer these pics up just for contrast not as a hijack; I think I briefed you some time ago re my Uncle Heinz, who was in 9th SS; their guns were vehicle -drawn. I produced this one last year as part of the veterans’ campaign (finish on the gun is incomplete):
I’ll be following this one from now on - superb work!
Yeah man cool job!! Yes the 9SS was all vehicle drawn for sure. Mules, halftracks and raupenschleppers. if I remember correctly. I have built 3 of those guns so far. All from AFV Club.
First horse about 95% done. I have to touch up the dings caused by all the handling as I added the details. The reins will be added when this goes in place on the groundwork.
This is the “off horse” in the lead team and so will not be ridden but even so is ready to be in case of injury, etc. So the stirrups are pulled high to prevent banging against the animals’ sides. The trail ropes are stowed until the team is in place and then can be attached to the 6 horse team.
That horse is masterfully done. I find horses hard to paint. The face is really beautifully rendered. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the kind words my friend.
J
Really looks great J, always learn something new when you share
one of your masterpieces. Thanks for sharing. ![]()
