So men the Steyr Ambulance Kfz. 31 is finished. It was an exciting build, fraught with a few major problems, but what good is a build without a little challenge? Then you’re just going through the motions. I enjoyed building this unique conversion. I now have a very cool looking model of a sleek vehicle that is rare in the model world. It was worth the effort and I’m happy with the result. I hope you’re as pleased with it as I am. As always, comments welcome.

HEY who you CALLIN OLD??? ha hah a

Actually I have a similar conversion for that Tamiya kit, that I got from our departed Friend Chic, it’s for a paneled truck. But the premise is the same.

Very well done with the completed offering Matt. With the conversion, your substantial corrections and a great paint and weathering finish you have given us all a wonderful rendition of a not very often seen vehicle. The toned German grey looks superb. And the cobble road setting completed it. ( You have almost given us a Berlin Cam cobbled effect when looking from above… Very nice :+1::+1:)

While I think everyone is help with your results, the important part is you are. Congratulations on finishing a project that was a challenge and most folks would have stuck on the shelf of doom long ago.

What is the next adventure?

Thank you for the sentiments John. It was, after all, fun. And that’s really the point of all this, right?

Thanks Ryan. I’ve had bigger challenges in my life (ever have anyone shoot at you because they’re SUPPOSED to?) and I love to build so I won’t let a kit defeat me. My shelf of shame only has 3 kits on it, and those are because I had to have surgeries. I should get back and finish them, but so many new exciting projects have taken their place!
Next project on the bench is the 1/35 Trumpeter M1142 Tactical Fire Fighting Truck with Voyager resin wheels. It comes with a triple-sized photo etch sheet so I didn’t buy PE for it, it didn’t need it. This will be a monster build and one I’ve wanted to do for a long time, since I am a Fire Police Officer in my town.

No, two way gun ranges are not healthy.

The M1142 looks like a beast, look forward to the build.

That’s going to be a monster, do units actually have those then ?

Pretty sure my aviation unit had them or something very very similar.

Edit: we didn’t use these version but the P-19 truck.

John this is a recently new vehicle and is in service with the US Army now. They are in widespread use and yes they are a monster. I got to test drive a HMMTT once and it was like piloting a huge moon rover.

That Steyr Ambo sure is a hard fought victory but boy you really did it justice. Bravo sir. Thanks for sharing! I do hope you’ll share your build of the Trumpeter TFFT!

Very inspiring job ! I have DAS WERK resin conversion for years. I’ve always been scared by the rear box body to assemble ( and a warped front cabin )
I like guys like you who can cut the chassis to add the missing 2mm to get it perfect !

Thank you Jim! Thank you Eric!

A friend of mine, Chris Toops, many year ago used the Steyr RSO cab to build this same ambulance model. His included a scratch built shelter body.

OK - I must have missed the post somehow but is the Steyr Field Car frame too short for the ambulance body? I would think they would have used the same frame for both vehicles but my friend also commented that he had had trouble fitting everything into the Field Car frame, length-wise when building his early model.
