Korea: 1950-1953

Group Build Title: Korea: 1950-1953

Group Build Leader(s): @michaelsatin

Group Build Description: Build something that was used during the Korean War. Any subject, any scale, any nationality.

Event Details: 2025 is the 75th anniversary of the start of the not-so-forgotten Korean War, the first major clash of the “Cold War”, so it seems like a good time for a campaign. Any subject in any scale from any nationality, as long as it particpated in the Korean “police action.”
(Remember to click “Going” if you want to join the build!)

Completion Award: [We’ll see about creating an award as we go along. Any suggestions appreciated!]

A Note about Awards: The following text is a reminder that in order for people participating and finishing their projects to receive a badge on their forum profile, they will need to provide their account username to the group build leader by the completion date of the build. The leader will then provide this list to the site admin who will bulk award the badges to those users who have finished the group build. If you don’t provide your username or finish the project on the timetable the leader has setup you will not be able to receive an award.

Another nice campaign idea!

Timely as I’ve recently finished the Max Hastings book on Korea. Lots of very interesting accounts and information in the book that I don’t know, I do feel it’s a war largely forgotten.

Not sure what I’d build but possibly something British armour or an F-86, don’t think I’ll find any Italian medical troops.

Pick my poison (literally)?

I mean, I do have other options, but these sort of stand out.

I’ll be in.
Got a couple of Korean War aircraft I keep meaning to do (a Skyknight and Mustang that stalled early).

What We could have Faced:
The JS-4 Stalin Tank(Trumpeter 1/35); A Limited Number of These were Produced; Stalin Himself had These Massed Along the Border with China in case He wanted to get Overtly Involved in Korea; However, They pretty much stayed There and Took no Part, and were eventually Scrapped.

How do group builds work? Do I select Going and post pictures of my model? I do have a USMC M26 Tamiya model that served in Korea…

Yes, click the going button to show you want to be part of the campaign. You can post a start picture of your kit whenever you want, but don’t start actually building until the official start date (January 1st). Then, periodically as your build proceeds, post some pictures to show your progress. When you’re done, post a few “finshed” pics to show off your work.

Welcome to the fun!

Ah, I see. I don’t have a new kit, only one I built a few months ago. I suppose this won’t qualify?

No, right, sorry. The idea is for everyone who joins to build a model to the theme together. We generally allow models up to 25% started, but sounds like your’s is already finished. Maybe you have something else that would qualify?

Campaigns can be a good excuse to buy another kit!

Not sure what I’ll build - there’s an M46 in the stash whispering to me. I’d build a figure of my father as an Air Force truck driver, but he was rotated home at the end of 1949, just missing the kick-off of the fighting! (And no, the rumours that he somehow started it before he left are baseless slander…)

Oh alright, that makes sense. I do have an unpainted M151A2 w/ TOW that was stationed in Korea, but I suppose that wouldn’t work…

No, sorry. Use during the actual Korean war is one of the rules.

Understood. Thank you, and have a great day!

Sigh, this is how it always starts. A neat concept, I have at least one kit that fits the theme, there might be enough time. If I sign up will I remember to start and then finish???

You could write the time frame with a black marker pen on a big cardboard calendar.

C’mon Mark, it’s been way too long. You can do it!

Apparently my smart phone (which I eschewed for many years after giving up my Blackberry) has the ability to do more than send texts and avoid phone calls. I may have to get my 22 year old daughter to skool me on some of its capabilities.
