I can’t claim credit for it, I got it from somebody else, though my memory fails me in remembering where. But as they say knowledge not shared is knowledge lost.
I’ve seen that too, can’t remember where either, but it looked slow. I guess that’s why I started using pieces of latex gloves.
Detail painting is mostly done. Just need to add color to the rear lights and reflectors and I can get cracking on weathering.
I’ve got to say I like that a lot; I’m now beating myself up for not having the same in my Cold War collection - I’ve certainly neglected the Dutch side of the house that’s for sure!
That’s a very nice looking model; 'just oozes Cold War - well, to me anyway. Oh, and is also redolent of long hair and beards, but one can’t have everything
Thanks!
Despite my not very Dutch sounding name, I am in fact Dutch (well, I have a double nationality) and the number of models of Dutch vehicles in my collection is low. There are a number of kits available that include Dutch markings, but more often than not the models can not be made into a Dutch vehicle straight from the box.
The Dutch military has a habit of looking at off the shelf options and just going “let’s be awkward and change just enough details to annoy model builders.” I’m pretty sure that’s the reason they do it.
Anyway, on a Dutch modelling forum one of the members pointed out to me that the antennas, when tied down, don really bend much, but pretty much fold at the base spring. A picture explains it better than words:
So I removed the antennas and made some new ones.
Luckily that was an easy fix.
it’s the same with me in a way; I concentrate so much on other Cold War stuff - ostensibly meant to be NATO and the opposition, but my Sov/WP build rate is glacial - but I end up neglecting the Brit stuff. Where are the many Chieftains, the Ferrets, the FV 432s? In the stash that’s where, while I tinker with yet another Leopard, or in this case anMBT-70, and for some insane reason, 2 x Sheridans.
I haven’t quite neglected the Dutch side of the house as much as I proclaim: I have a What-If NL MBT-70, ad M113 C & R and a couple of DAF YA 66s, all waiting to be merged into a small diorama; the trouble is, it’s figure heavy and that always slows me down to the point of distraction, hence for some bizarre reason, the 2 x Sheridans.
But I do like your Leopard; I have now resolved to get one - yet another distraction. But the early 70s were good days for me as a young soldier: still enthusiastic, and not yet imbued with that world-weary cynicism(!) I remember seeing the Dutch Army several times as we deployed on exercise, Leopards like yours in the misty distance parked up somewhere (probably Bergen-Hohne), and the 8-wheeled YPs - very interesting to a 17-year-old, as indeed, all foreign kit was back then.
As an aside I did tackle the ancient Esci Dutch Leo 2 some years ago; I messed up the angle of the smoke dischargers - thank God for foliage and camouflage nets:
I still want to do a Dutch 2A4. Somehow these beasts look better in RAL 6014 than in NATOflage. Those big, green, square, blocky 2A4NL’s just scream “I’m here to beat face.”
I mean… look at this guy!
That’s a good looking tank! While I really like the space ships that are the newer versions of the Leopard, this thing just looks like a brawler.
Your model looks really good.
I should be ashamed, for some reason I made a Portuguese tank (an M47) before I made a Dutch one. But then again, my wife was born in Portugal and their M47’s were fairly standard, so an easy build. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.
I have a lot of British cold war vehicles in different stages of done in my stash. I really love them, but for some reason I seem unable to bring them across the finish line.
I’ve got all the stuff in one place to do the Dutch A4, and just as soon as I finish the five or six on the bench I’m all over it.
Probably.

I have so many projects clamoring for attention that if they were actual voices in my head I’d be the subject of a documentary.
I know that feeling. Sitting at my workbench I face towards shelves of paints and a shelf of finished models. But right behind me are racks of boxes with unfinished and unstarted kits, softly calling my name…
Anyway, is there anybody that can help me get my hands on this transfer from the Revell kit?
Wonderful work.
Jay, I’ve got that one going buckshee; just let me know your address by PM and I’ll get it in the post.
Brian
PS: Unless that is, someone crops up with it who lives nearer and you’ll get a bit quicker.
Reference my last: just to clarify I’m UK-based.
Quick update: gloss coat is on, markings are on and pin wash is on…
Special thanks to @BootsDMS Brian Stoddart for helping out with the markings.
Yesterday evening I hit the model with a matt coat.
Today I made a start on weathering.
In the pics everything looks much greyer than in real life. Once the model is done, I’ll get the ol’ photo booth out and take some proper pics.
I’m going for a tank that’s well maintained (it is after all a peace time army), but has been in the field for a few days. So plenty of dirt, hardly any chipping, except for high wear areas, such as hatches and such and no rust at all.
