Leopard 2A6M CAN

Was thinking about this for the next project once I’ve built my generic display base.
The Hobbyboss Leo 2A6M CAN.

Has anyone here built this version, if so, thoughts ? Good/bad points. The sprues look good, slat armour looks ok and there’s 3 decent PE frets.

It will be an OOB build … If I decide to do it.

I have not built it but I have it in the stash.

I built it ages ago. Fairly straight forward, reasonably accurate pretty typical hobby boss kit.

The original review here.

I say build OOB like your planning and don’t sweat the small stuff for this project.

Cheers Ryan … only thing I may do is rough up some of the slat armour …

Go for it John, do it OOB and have a ball. This is a simple kit of a really cool tank and you should really enjoy building it. One of my club mates did it recently.

Cheers Matt, I will definitely be doing it, just got to get this photo base finished and will make a start on it then. :+1:

Looking forward to following this one John, :+1:, will it have the same attention to detail as your more ‘personal’ builds?

Cheers mate. It will be pretty much OOB this time. I may add a few bits here and there if I see anything that jumps out from ref images when I look for them, but nothing crazy.

So, everything was going along great… I got the wheels together and then built up the lower hull and made a start on the upper. There were a few very minor fit issues with the hull outer side plate, but some plastic putty and a bit of trimming sorted those out.

Then I went to put the driver’s vision blocks in …
No transparency fret was in the box… And after I triple checked that, I also found out theres no decal sheet …gutted… I know I haven’t lost or misplaced it …I just never checked initially so my fault …
I will heck my spares later on e back home as I may have some spare vision blocks that could be made to work, otherwise I will use plastic sheet from food trays and cut to fit …I can maybe get away without decals as I only really wanted the maple leave ones, so will need to figure that out …I was going to email HB customer services but after looking into that, it may be a non starter …

Echelon Decals makes a set of 2A6M decals which include many stencils Hobby Boss missed.

According Tankograd book 8002, Leopard 2A6M CAN arrived in Afghanistan in August 2007. The MCS BARRACUDA was applied on the tanks from April 2008.

So the HOBBYBOSS kit straight from the box matches this 8 months time frame.

Got the vision blocks sorted out… Just did what I said above using food tray plastic ..

Annoyingly I will have to bite the bullet on the decals and order that echelon set at some point .

Thanks Bert … Got a bit more done … Decided to do a few little extra bits. Nothing crazy, just things to help the look.
Will replace the bin and access caps with wire handles for one, and I also reamed out the headlights using my knock off Dremel … Worked really nicely … First time I’ve ever used it …

The headlights were just a solid flat surface, but looks ok now .
