Gee whiz. I built one of Hobby Boss’ original 2A4 kits a couple of years ago and the instructions had the same mistake. Rat of a kit, BTW.
That’s being polite Russ …it’s a mare and no mistake … But, saying that, it only cost about £26 I think, so you get what you pay for sometimes…
Aside from all the issues, it’s building up ok…
And I need to order that decal sheet as well.
I’m not sure if you’ve encountered this yet. When I built mine the turret impacted the air intakes, especially once the slat was added. It’s known that the top piece of the hull bows down slightly. I had to put a brace inside just behind the turret ring to the floor. this kept the hull top level and the turret with slat no longer hits the air intakes (or anything).
Good to know Ian, many thanks
Is this kit based off the original tooling, the ones that had the wheel hubs off-center?
I used Tamiya running gear on my build of the A4, and if the A4M I have on the way is too, I’ll be using more Tamiya parts…
Damn you Russ …Yeah I hadnt even known or checked that. They are off center. But mine will be going on as they are
Sorry, that kind of stuff bugs me big time.
I’m getting anxious now to see what the wheels in the A4M I have coming look like. It should be here next week. Good thing I have a couple of Tamiya A5/6 kits in the stash.
Lucky for me, the Tamiya swing arms and idler mounts are almosta drop-fit on the HB hull, see below.

There’s a story behind that build, for another time.
Totally agree, you’d think with some dodgy instructions, fitting issues and bad parts, you’d think they’d have sorted some or all out by now.
I got a primer coat down this afternoon…
Halfords rattle can black, nice and easy.
Plan from now is do a green coat next on everything, then do the wheel rubber, tracks, assembly of the running gear and get the side skirts on, then do the cam. I’m thinking of the AK RC NATO green as that’s a bit brighter than the Tamiya.
Once that’s done, I will do the slat armour.
Phase 1 of painting done … Green is on…
Ended up having to use Tamiya XF 67 as I’d unknowingly run out of AK NATO green…
I may have the hobby boss decals for that kit in my spare decal bin
Hi Nick, that’d be cool, but unless its in UK, I think cost & postage may be a bit restrictive mate.
That would be perfect Nick, thats a real bonus buddy. Will PM you my details ok…
When adding the NATO cam, leave the extra armoured upper hull plate in green. It was never painted , even though the instructions tell you to paint it.Photo when they arrived in Country( Kandahar , Afghanistan) in late August 2007
Here is another reference photo for you, showing the green add on armour on the upper hull in plain green,
Great info Anthony, many thanks mate. If you have any other info on the wagons you used, feel free to point it out
Ok sounds good
3 tone is on and now begins a ton of detail painting but along side that, I will make a start on the flat armour…
And a shout out for Anthony @AD_Sewards regarding the front top armour and staying green.
Looking good👍
