Leopard C2 Canada

This probably ticked off a few Maj Equip Sup Techs too, unless VMO’s completed! Nothing like chasing down serial numbers and CFR to match. I can relate to this lol…

Wow! Thanks to Anthony’s in depth knowledge and photos this thread has turned into a little encyclopedia about the Leopard C2. Thanks so much! Might be also of some help for others. And I even haven’t started the build …

You’re right, Richard, I’m also a fan of the Leopard but more the Leo 2. Have been a gunner/loader on the 2A4 in my first year before switching to become a truck driver for the other 3 years. One of the first memories I have as a little boy of the Leo 1 is, in the village where I grew up, we had a railway station and a few times in the 1970’s some early Leo 1 of the Koninklijke Landmacht (Dutch Army) were loaded here on flatbed cars. And I was watching this scene with big eyes … :slightly_smiling_face: Those were the days.

That’s german bureaucracy. We’re quite good in that!

Have changed the photos of the painted spoons in my earlier post. Needed a few attemps to make the camera what I want. For everyone, who doesn’t know what RLM means. That’s the abbreviation for Reichsluftfahrtministerium, the ministry of the old Luftwaffe in WW2. I use these paints quite often.

Okay, I will start the C2 build this coming weekend. Still have to sort out the parts.

If you mean the MENG C2 MEXAS , that kit is pretty much good to go, based my Leopard that I commanded back in 2007. I was the tech advisor on that kit, and has my logo on the box top…..

Back in 2003, we sent 4x Leo C2 to act as an OPFOR unit, and they were painted with desert tan paint that was left over from when we deployed to Afghanistan in 2002. These tanks remaining with OPFOR until we got the order to prepare to deploy a Tank Squadron to the sandbox, and were brought back to Regimental strength for training, here is a photo of one of the four.

This tank has the fabric covering-did it work as promised?

Many thanks Anthony much appreciated.

Yes, it did reduce the heat in the tank a little bit, without it added an extra 10 degrees and the crews suffered, then we changed when we did operations, started earlier in the morning , 0 dark thirty until around lunchtime, so that the crews could recoup and be ready for the next operation or QRF call with troops in Contact in our area of operations….

A quick reference for Canadian Leopard C1 & C2 markings . This is a quick reference guide for how we marked our tanks ( Leopard 2’s are marked differently ). The only change was that later training, we would have call sign boards attached to our tanks so easy identification , plus if we needed to change tanks for training due to breakdowns , we would just take our gearékit and remount our sign boards on the new tank. CFR= Canadian Forces Registration , an example 78-85132.

Whoa! NATO 3 tone with solid green MEXAS modules? I wish I hadn’t known that. Now I just have to build one.

If anyone is looking for Canadian Military Vehicle Reference sets, they are available from Trackjam Models . These sets are the best on the market . Here are the covers for the ASO21 Leo C1 & C1 MEXAS, ASO23 Leo C2 & C2 MEXAS.
