Long Range Desert Group

So I have added some paint. The colors are light stone 61 and slate 34 from Life Color. The camoflage pattern is absolutly debatable since the Brits normalt did not use disruptive patterns on such small vehicle. However, it is a known fact that LRDG regulary repainted their vehicles according to the area they operated in so why not? This jeep will be in a diorama with a Chevrolet CWT which had this pattern so I made an assumption that maybe they had similar looking camoflage. There is no photographic evidence of this, but then again there are not that many pictures of LRDG jeeps on operations. Another factor is that I have made too many plain desert yellow models lately

Next step is touch ups and detailing.

Looking very nice. The chevy 30 cwt’s had Maori names on the hood, but I don’t see any pix of the command jeeps having this with the NZ troop.

I agree. There are pictures of jeeps with serial number on the bonnet and bumper, but I have only seen models with patrol troop markings. Only regnet I have so far, is that the cut down wind screen some of the LRDG had, came to my attention too late.

Thank you. The weather forcast for tomorrow is really sh**ty, so I guess there will be several hours at the bench painting.

I have pix with half of the NZ troop being T/5, but I don’t know if the other half was T/4 or T/6. By 1942 they had divided each troop in half which would be when the Willys were available.

Looking really nice Erik. Paint is cool as well, something a bit different … the kit in the back is good also, nicely balanced.

Got the wheels on today and did a bit of detail painting. In addition I built a camel and painted the two crew men a bit. All of them are far from finished.

For some reason … this just made me laugh :grinning: … Jeep is looking great with the paint on :+1:

And here is the camel and the rider, just for you

I like the Master Box figures in general, but the camel needs Milliputty or similar putty. Ordinary tube putty will not work, since you need to sculpt it a bit. That said, if you want a camel for a diorama there is not much to choose from and I´m happy with the result. I forgot to take a picture of it with the Milliputty added and sanded, but the problem area is the head, around the saddle, and the body in front of- and behind the saddle.

Nice work on the jeep Erik, especially liking the stowage and additional recks, :+1: :slightly_smiling_face:.

The jeep is finished. What was left from last post was basically a lot of painting of small stuff and crew. This is the first vehicle for my little LRDG diorama , so there is a reason why the hood is open.

Next up is the old Tamiya LRDG Chevrolet. Stay tuned.

That is really excellent. The way the dust has toned down the caunter like camouflage is masterful. The cording used to wrap the tarps on the hood is perfect. What did you use for that?

Mylar silver thread from my fly tying stash.

LRDG Part 2
Onward with the Chevrolet 30cwt. This is Tamiyas ancient kit of (to me) a very cool truck. It has a ton of errors and size issues, but most of them are impossible to correct (at least for me). So I have to «camoflage» them with resin and etch. I have a resin kit from Black Dog and a Eduard PE set and I guess the end result will be okay(ish). I´m curious about the quality about the BD kit though. It looks allright, but with previous experience with their SAS kit… Anyway, here is some framework.
