Wasnt thinking of a campaign per say. More of a dual build ala the Type 45 (which you are way ahead of btw )
Work on Dauntless has stalled a bit ATM, as the dock workers have been diverted to finishing off a P-51 D before Christmas, giving you a chance to catch up
Mine have all been collectivized and are working at the tank factory churning out strong Soviet vehicles!
That’s a lot of “targets”
Off to Gulag you go!
Back from day one at the UK IPMS Nationals.
A few still in the car and under our club stand, back tomorrow for day two.
Red box is HMS Abdiel, Master 4.5” and 4.7” barrels plus tapered brass masts all 1/700.
I had a big scratchbuilt rc 1876 MHS Dreadnought and a Lindberg diesel tug converted to a steam tug that were loads of fun until they got destroyed in a move. Ever since I’ve been itching to get back in. I finally took the plunge and ordered a Lindberg Atlantic Trawler, a radio system and hardware as well as a small pile of weaponry to convert it to a wartime steam ASW trawler. My thinking is it might be more seaworthy than the already seaworthy tug and why make a boring out of box when it could be more interesting. It will be an odd mix on low-end kit and high end guns and depth charges. Now to wait for everything to arrive. Then I’ll see how much superstructure changes will be needed.
Day two, final day of the UK IPMS Nationals and some more kits found there way into my stash. Also while sitting at the club stand I started one of the kits.
This will keep you busy for some days
Where is the envious button… where, where
If only I could find the time to build it all!
Well a delivery arrived from Japan a day early - 4 days now that’s good service.
That’s a 1/700 waterline HMS Victory, a Roman Quinquereme and two Roman ‘warships’, should be fun?
What I haven’t shown you as the boxes are huge, I also picked up while at the show over the weekend a couple of the Takom 1/35 ships weapons, namely Yamato secondary turret, 130mm Russian twin turret and the Russian CIWS.
The Yamato turret is almost built but I’m now thinking of motorising it before it is to late in the build.
Ok a supply run, Navy paints were very sparse at the show so ordered these and saw the basic set, 8 base colours, 2 brushes, 3 paint trays, 3 measuring ‘spoons’, a mixing stick and lid grip.
Set of IJN Grey “Arsenal” paints and a set of IJN carrier camo paints.
A pretty lean show, by all accounts, Luciano: no major announcements from any of the kit makers?
There were a few traders noted by their absence including Revell and Airfix although Airfix magazine was there with a few kits on show. Also several clubs failed to show as witnessed by a few empty tables. Still a large show nonetheless. The overseas club area was there but a lot smaller than normal.
Unfortunately after the demise of WEM years back there has not been anyone on the UK show circuit to fill that Naval speciality slot, although there was a Dutch manufacturer/trader with some of their products where I picked up a few second hand items, their own kits although very nice are not my subject area.
Let’s hope for a better showing next year…
Even Sovereign Hobbies (Colour Coats) have decided to pull back and only do one show per year owing to costs…
Yes I saw that, cost of travel, accommodation, trade space, time off as not their main job, thieves nicking stuff off their stand it all mounts up, unfortunately even in our community there are thieves about. On our club stands it’s always a case of making sure at least one member is present, although that is also to answer any questions from passing public/other modellers.
Missed L’Arsenal not being there this year as they normally have a few things I can use. I know for a lot Covid was and is on their minds especially with a vast amount of the community being aged.
So the ship is from a friend who I’m going to build and paint it for. It looks like a nice kit:
But I think it needs some details and look what I found:
Interesting ship Phil, I’ll look out for your build of it.
My postie delivered a couple of items, two in 1/700 and 1 in 1/35.
The Akagi is a Hasegawa Limited Edition boxing with a ‘Tora, Tora, Tora’ embroidered patch and of course the 80th anniversary of Pearl Harbour is just around the corner.
Well a couple of parcels turned up at the drawing office and wait for room in the ship yard. The books are vol.1 & 2 which is letter A & B, got them cheap sight unseen, nice books even if they only cover the first two letters of the alphabet.
Didn’t realise what I’d done with the X-craft and the mines until Iayed them down for the photo.
