Most probably but you can never say never

I think I am going to change my time period to the capture of Jerusalem in 1967……these were avaliable because the M50’s and M51’s were in the front lines…. That way I can use the tactical markings and as far as the hvss goes…. who’s going to know besides you that it might not be 100% correct even though it may still well be.

I remembered that there was a M4A1 76mm tank on Ammunition Hill in Jerusalem.

Than I found this:

If you combine it with the indo in this article

There is a high chance that the first tanks that were hidden in the city inluded M4A1 76mm tanks. The “upgraded” Sherman referred to the article are M50s, the one at Lion’s Gate was an M50.

I read pretty much the same story in the Israeli Military Vehicles book I have. Those Israeli’s are pretty sneaky and imaginative to today……gotta love the exploding beepers.

Doing the metal weathering around the road wheels from the track…..is this distinct enough……I am not sure how bright the metal would be?

It would be fairly bright, because the track guide teeth rub against it continually as the vehicle is in motion. Once you know this, you’ll spot it in photos of Shermans and similar vehicles all the time.

So what color do you think the M1’s that took part in the capture of Jerusalem were….Olive Drab because they were older models or the “Sinai Grey” from that time period?

By 67’ I believe that the M1 was a reserve vehicle and any of them left should have already been converted to HVSS even if they weren’t originally HVSS.

I’ve even seen images of both M1s and M51s HVSS with small hatch hulls proof that they converted most everything to HVSS even vehicles that didn’t originally come with a T23 turret like the M50s based on the M4A4 hull.

Too late……I just repainted all the olive drab running gear I had painted earlier……to early IDF sand yellow…..it is going to be a vehicle they forgot to change the suspension.
