It looks like they do not have any tactical markings…..and the V I believe came after this period because of Egpyt also using Sherman tanks, trying to avoid friendly fire. All they seem to have are the hull numbers….which I have sourced from another decal sheet.
I was wondering if any of you IDF armor gurus have any other pictures? Do they show tactical unit markings on the turret? Also it looks like the mantlet cover was both used and not used?
I highly recommend buying the Israeli Sherman books from Dr. Manasherob’s website, he has photos in his books that nobody has, and his Sherman in Israeli service research is second to none.
I will not be posting images of photos from Dr Manasherob’s books, if I recall correctly from correspondence I had with him while ordering books, he spent money out of pocket to acquire those images from private collections in Israel. This is a case where the copyright actually means something because he paid the people that originally took the photos or their surviving relatives money for one of kind images never published in books before.
Most of the more recent updated and correct information we have about Israeli Shermans is thanks to Dr. Manasherob. While author Tom Gannon deserves a ton of credit for bringing attention to these subjects going back a long time ago. Dr. Manasherob’s work has been instrumental in teaching us the correct history of these vehicles.
Yes…I am aware they were used in the 1956 Sinai War against Egypt……the books you recommended look excellent on the website…but almost $50.00 with shipping, for a book I will probably not need again,is steep…..unless I was a Shermaniac like you.
Anyone know where I might source the spare 1/16 T54 E1 track holders….I have seen T62 extra track holders online….or 1/16 IDF storage for that “cinnamon roll” looking tarp?
For the tarp take a baby whipe, let it dry, fold it many times so as to match the estimated height of the roll, roll it to size, tie it, use some thinned pva and you should be good to go.
I know, I have issues. I even have a book from Argentina that deals with “Repotenciado” Shermans and I also have a couple of books about Chilean Shermans purchased from the IDF.
This may not be exactly what you’re asking, but I’ll post it anyway just in case. This first photo shows a tactical marking on the front that came with the Verlinden dry transfer set. I made the turret markings myself out of white decal film because their dry transfers kind of sucked.
I suppose you can consider the white stripe on the turret and engine deck as a tactical marking as well. It also had the Chevron on the side like the one in this next photo which I copied from an old photo I saw somewhere.
I don’t know for sure but they look similar to the type that Sherman Fireflies had in WW2. Maybe searching for 3D printed firefly parts? Just scratch build them using evergreen angle and strip pieces.
Yes…..I like the idea of searching for Sherman Firefly parts….Great idea…..did the Achilles have the same track also….there is one in 1/16 from Andy’s.
To go on the tank’s nose? I can’t find any good photos of these on a quick look, but they seem to be fairly simple affairs from metal strip and possibly angle iron — nothing you can’t make yourself from plastic strip if you’ve got a decent photo of it and some spare track links to build it around.
You mean the standard British Sherman spare track racks?
