M113 OIF questions

Thanks for the internal fuel tank info. Unfortunately, I already cut the Academy fuel tank early this morning but I can always glue it back together.

If you look at this image, also from Prime Portal, you can see the internal fuel tank aligned with the edge of the bench seat. I should have checked this image before cutting the Academy part.

Here is the Academy fuel tank back together. I need to fill and sand it to get rid of the cut lines. You can see it doesn’t actually align with the bench seat edge line but I took the photo at a different angle but it was the best I could get it to try to match.

Nice save. I doubt anyone b ut you will even know.

You got pretty close, I would be happy with that.
If you really want to get to line up exactly, I would make a shim out of sheet plastic, attached to the left hand side of the fuel tank, where it meets up with the back wall of the body. This area is hard to see when the top is added.

@18bravo, @tankerken Thanks! I just checked with the upper hull on and with the troop hatch open you can barely see it. Even with the ramp down, it is still pretty hard to see. I will leave it as is. I just need to fill in the cut lines and sand it now.

When storing the extra M47 rounds in the M113A2, would the bipods still be attached or would they be removed? How many rounds do they typically store inside? I am using the Tamiya M47’s for the extra rounds.

Items left adrift and unsecured is not theft.

Try telling that to a judge! :sob:

Why do you need to talk to a judge? :sunglasses:

Storage locations of all Dragon components should be in those TM scans I sent you a few weeks ago.

I got the scans, thanks! I went through them but still had some questions. I sent you a PM.

Starting on the interior of the M113A2 Just Cause vehicle. The floor is only dry fitted for now. Trying to get all the parts in that will be the light green. I will be scratch building some parts specific to the ones that had the M47 mounted which I haven’t started on yet.

Looking good. I like how you handled the split engine access.

Thanks! I cut some thin plastic sheet to size and placed over the existing panel.

Questions on the IDF M113 FN MAG placement. Where is the correct placement for the two FN MAG’s by the cargo hatch? Academy has them placed differently from AFV and Dragon. Which is the correct placement for them? Were they placed differently at different time frames?

I see on the Academy product image they show the FN MAG’s on the sides of the cargo hatch as seen below.
Imgur

Both the AFV and Dragon product images shows them just forward of the cargo hatch at the corners.

Judging by these two photos, it looks like there could be some variance in the exact location for mounting the pintles

Thank you! Great images showing the two different locations. All the images I found show the mounts at the front corners of the cargo hatch. Great that you found one showing the mounts at the sides like Academy has it. I will go with the mounts at the front corners of the hatch as I am doing one from 2023 which shows the mounts at the front corners.

I found these two from 2023 in or around Gaza and it shows in the first image they are still using the swing arm and the second image they are using just the pintle. I like the look of the swing arms so will go with those. I have the Verlinden set but using the Legend FN MAGS with it.

The Legend FN MAGs give the muzzles with the iron sights separate from the barrels. Most came broken off the resin blocks and broken at the sights. The carry handles were also broken off.

The Verlinden set comes with some nice PE but the FN MAGs look oversized.

Can these Miniart figures be used for 2023? I am planning to use the female figure on a similar M113 shown in the second image which is from the Gaza war, 2023.

Worked on the M113A3 storage baskets. I used the Academy kit parts but modified them. I used plastic strips to make it look more like the one on this vehicle.

Nice work on the homebrew side racks. I think most of that those were built by the shop before the send-off.

Nothing some steel plate, an acetylene torch and some Redneck ingenuity can’t overcome.

I remember we hand built our rear stowage racks in-house from steel flta bar and hung them off the tail gates of our Humvees
