M48 Fuel Drum Rack?

Sorry guys, life has unexpectedly gotten in the way of modeling, and everything, in a big way the last couple weeks. I’ll try and get something to y’all in the next few days.

Thanks Jim. I should have enough data to get started on CAD work.

You’re very welcome. But keep in mind, I built this about 20 years ago from very limited information, no measurements at all, just the Mk1 Eyeball! :eye:

Hello everyone.
Long time lurker, first time poster. A friend of mine is working on a 3d print of an M 48 fuel drum rack as a favor to me. I apreciate the pictures you all have posted. They are the basis of what he used to work on the print. I thought I would share his progress so far. He used the Dragon M 48 as the base kit.

Looks good. Will he print the barrels, fuel lines etc or just the mount?

If you’re using a smartphone or tablet to take pictures, you can use a measuring app instead. iPhones and iPads come with one as standard, while Android appears to have plenty available for you to download from the Google Play store. Then just record the measurements on the phone or tablet, too.

I know he is going to work on the shield and fuel lines. The barrels he might do not since those are easy enough to get. I haven’t been able to find any good photos of the fuel lines and exactly how they are attached. If anyone has any, that would be helpful. At first my friend was thinking of one solid piece wth barels and fuel lines, but I guess there was some issues doing it that way.

There are some good photos earlier in this thread of the fuel lines. At least to my eye they look pretty decent.

안녕하세요. Nice work so far. You beat me to it. I was planning to CAD it later this month. Keep us updated on the progress.

Yeah. You’re right. I think was obsessing over the rack itself. Took a closer look at the pics. There are some good shots of the fuel lines. I will keep everyone posted on the progress.

Is your friend interested in selling the racks if he prints them up? I would definitely be interested in a
couple.

I haven’t been following this as closely as I should, but if there’s any racks going I’m your man!

You know, I am really surpised that Legend or DEF model or some other after market company hasn’t already made an M 48 fuel rack. There certainly seems to be enough interest. I would have bought a couple ages ago. We’ll see how it turns out. My friend is doing this in his spare time, so I’m not sure how long it’s going to take. But the lion’s share of the work is done. I will most certainly keep everyone up to date.

Thanks; I agree with you - of there was one available I too would have had a couple. It’ll make such a difference to a M48 or the mighty M103!

Here is an update of my buddie’s fuel rack print project. The design phase is complete, now he needs to figure out how to best print it. The plan is to have as few separate pieces as possible. He mentioned that the siphon tubes on the barrels may prove to be too delicate to survive the print. That may have to be scratched later. we’ll see. I think he has done a great job so far. I can’t wait to see some printed examples. Again, I will keep you all posted.
