M548 Vietnam

Gentlemen

I’m trying to build an M548 in Vietnam.with an open cab. My problem is I cannot find any reference material the shows the area of the dashboard to the right of the instrument panel; the center section, as well as the right hand seat. Are they just open spaces as represented in the AFV Club kit? Are heater kits and duct work installed in vehicles serving in Vietnam? I have the operator’s TM, and a slew of photos, but nothing shows these areas. Is there wiring for the r/s headlight cluster?
Any help, even a verbal description would be greatly appreciated, and I thank you in advance.

If you’ve got this already that may be as good as it gets:

Unless someone lives near one…
I do seem to recall there was a weapon clamp to the right front. It may or may not have been present on all of them, as it seemed to be optional on other vehicles from the period such as the M151 series.

Hello!

I have a slow-going project of something similar, so hopefully you can get the idea:

From what I’ve seen in the photos, the heater mostly wouldn’t be there, but like always you can count on exceptions. By the manual you would have a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher and a water can there. The gun rack is mounted behind the bench seat.

Hope this helps - good luck with your build and have a nice day!

Gentlemen.
Thank you very much for your quick
responses.
Bravo18-yeah, I downloaded that TM, but the drawings show little of the areas in question, but I do appreciate your effort.
Frenchy- you, sir, are the research wizard! Your generous response made clear everything I was looking for. Thank you very much.
Pawel- thank you immensely for sharing your fantastic build. You, sir, have set the bar very high! I would love to learn how you created those incredible decals. If by chance that second set is still available I would be very much interested. Again, thank you very much.

Looked like I might have been that guy. There’s one at Fort Sill. I was prepared to make a detour on my next trip, but I don’t think I could have added to that fine walkaround.

I really appreciate that.
If I can’t gitter done with what Frenchy shared, I should just hang up my Optivisor. I can’t believe how “soft” the kit interior is, if that’s the correct term.
Again, many thanks
Just out of curiosity: did I post this in the correct forum?
I got some great replies, so I guess so

You might see if you can source the -20P organizational repair parts manual, these -20Ps provide good line drawings of the particular vehicles. 9-2350-247-20P

here are some pics in a kiwi 548, our ones normally had a radio tray in the center section but not sure what they did during Vietnam.

this was my first time back behind the sticks in 16 years

a few shots around the cab

they are quite sparce inside anyway

the headlight cluster is behind the angled plate

ours mostly had the fiberglass hard top on them. only the early NZ 548’s had the rag top

you can see on a model i did i cut the door open and added a radio tray. this was before it was finished. i do need to go back and add some spare decals i have to the door. was not hard to cut it open i just scored with a fine knife until it separated then cleaned the edges

hope those help

That’s a fine looking build there. Those lights on the dash are fantastic.

Thanks Tankie. Image 3 is the money shot! Thanks for sharing. And that is one good looking build. Congratulations

Frenchy: I’ve always been in awe of your ability to find everything on anything. I’m honored to be the beneficiary of your talent. Again, thank you.

Thanks. I checked eBay, but the one listing had been sold. It is downloadable on Scrib’d, but for now I’d rather have a copy of the real deal.
I do appreciate the tip

Hello!

I actually sent my backup copy to @namengr , so curently I don’t have any. But as the design is mine, I can print more - thing is I would have to ask you to cover the cost of printing and shipping. I would need to calculate how much that would be. Let me know if you are interested.

Good luck with your projects and have a nice day!

Thank you.
Of course I would want to reimburse you whatever costs are associated with getting copies of your work, as well as your time and work in creating them.

the T shaped brackets on the dash we normally had the AN/VIC-1 Intercommunications system, AM-1780 Junction box / audio amplifier mounted on that fed out to the C-2289 Control Boxes that our VTH helmets connected to. in Vietnam these could have been mounted elsewhere or may have just used a main radio tray and only the commander having a feed.
