Thanks again Gino, appreciate your help and guidance.

Looks like the 4.2 kW generator set is sitting too high in its enclosure (or maybe it’s just temporary ) :

You’re quite right Frenchy. Its just lodged in there ATM after it came adrift during the front end rebuild.

IIRC, the kit enclosure parts needed some serious sanding (or a replacement with PE parts)

What crash?

The website crashed Thursday night after I had posted about the items you are changing. When it was fixed, it was restored from before you or I posted on Thurs.

Another step forward. Replaced the incorrect front hull panels, only the driver’s station roof stayed on.

The genset should be at the right height in the housing and I’ve moved the o/s support to accommodate the A2 deck. I found jerrycans from Meng and will paint those tomorrow. The chair and packs came adrift during the reno, but I’ll get to those.

Any advice, pics re antennas would be much appreciated.

Need some help. Are the MRE cartons in the Tamiya modern military equipment set correct for ODS use? I read that certain pieces in this set are too modern for ODS use.

I have the Verlinden MRE sheet and the cartons are completely different.

Also, was the genset cover always carried and stowed just behind the genset housing?

TIA

Here’s a ODS-era MRE box

Thanks Frenchy. The Verlinden ones will work, pity ‘cos the Tamiya ones go together so well.

I created an endless supply of MRE boxes by cutting brown paper bags into 8.5 x 11 sheets, then photocopying the MRE boxes onto it. Cheating, yes, but I have lots of boxes

The ones in the older (1980s) Tamiya Modern U.S. Accessory Set (35141) has the older, flatter boxes used in ODS.

The newer (2000s) Tamiya Modern U.S. Military Equipment Set (35266) has the post-ODS, more square MRE boxes.

Thankyou Gino. I’ll look for the older set, but can deal* with the Verlinden ones for now *( folding them the right way is another story).

I make a shallow slice on the inside section of the card where it is to fold to make it easier to keep the folds in the right place and everything squared up.

I also make an interior from Balsa wood and form the MRE around that. There are lots of different size lengths of balsa, and you can sand it down or add strips to the sides to get the right size if needed. Gluing the card onto the balsa keeps the shape.

Someone should 3D print blocks for all the different paper boxes out there, wink wink, nod nod…

Maybe if they also teamed up with someone that made decals, they could 3D print the boxes …

That Verlinden set is a challenge. It’s a 2 piece build with zero instructions on what, where. ( Tamiya, one piece with directions)

Those who know my history will appreciate that with my Homer Simpson - like logic and construction skills, it will be tough.

Anyone else remember building the Verlinden MRE boxes?

Yes, I remember them being really thick, too thick to fold, and that’s what drove me to make my own

With a score on the creases, they do fold but it’s the build order I don’t get.

If it’s the two part box you mean it’s because the real ones are like that, the outer carton slides off the main carton. FYI, the outer carton makes a great field expedient crapper, along with a trash bag. :+1: Some day I’ll tell the story of being a train guard going from Ft. Hood to Ft. Irwin and using a field expedient toilet on the outside, back porch of a caboose. Next thing I know we’re going through an intersection in the middle of nowhere with traffic stopped at the signal. I just waived at everyone…
