I think terms like “A0” and “Gavin” enter the modeling world from non-prior-service modeler experten who want to sound like know-it-all big shots to other modelers and then things get repeated and it becomes urban legend among modelers. It used to spread at shows, but now with the internet it spreads instantly. Good on you Ken for calling it out.
OK, sculpting finished. I’m fairly happy with how it looks. I’ll smooth/blend in the added surface with the rest with some Mr. Surfacer later. Moving onto the rest of the tank:
Next to the Dragon M48’s turret as a “before” and “after” comparison:
Added the modified turret to a Tamiya M60 upper hull to see how it looks:
Assembling the lower hull with added 3D printed suspension bump stops:
Even though I just finished a CAD of M68 105mm gun, I am not going to use my 3D printed version. Instead, I am scratch-building the barrel for this project. Fun, fun.
I like the bump stops a LOT. And have fun with the gun tube.
Good work, P2G.
Some progress made with a scratch-built gun and Legend P’s resin mantlet cover:
Looks messy once you zoom in a lot:
Superb work.Love the 105.Watching with interest.

Nice job on the 105. I’m sure it will clean up fine!
How much undersized is it?
3D printed the driver’s hatch and test-fit.
Not a perfect fit to Tamiya/Academy hull but working after some sanding and minor adjustment to the kit part:
Looking good. Are you planning on changing the driver’s periscopes?
Looks great! I wish someone would make a new conversion for the Takom kits.
Hi Nikos,
I wasn’t planning on it. Are they significantly different from the kit parts? I didn’t even think about them.
Hi Magnus,
Or better yet, I am hoping that Takom would release a new tooled M60 “Slick”. They have all the parts already manufactured except for the turret basically - sure there can be other minor tweaks in the hull, etc. but nothing in the pipeline it seems…
Takom will eventually release the slick.
You can do better detailed pieces plus opt to have all three raised or lowered.
You’re twisting my arm, Nikos. Just going to leave the kit parts alone for this project… Maybe someday.
Nice work on the M60. I was more chagrined at sites calling the M60A1 an M60. I got to know the M60 well, when I arrived in Germany in '75. After having been trained on the M60A1 and A2 at Ft Knox, I get to my unit and was put on an M60! I had one gunnery, in July of 75. Then, our battalion began, one company at a time trading for M60A2s. I recall the extension on the rear of the turret, was to allow a few rounds of 105mm ammo to be placed there. The primer end was nearly under the loader’s hatch, and the business end was towards the mid line of the tank. I forget how many rounds were stored there, but I think it may have been4 or so.
