M813 with Fuel Tanks and Pump Unit (TPU)

Thanks Gino, as always you were a great help. Really nice to see Mikey Bug’s conversion set develop through to the full set modellers hoped for.
It was great working with him as well a you and the other guys on this “little”project.

Re the tiedowns, I thought I’d be cutting each strap and joining them at the buckle point. Turns out it was easier to s’glue to one point, loop the strap atthe other end, overlap and s’glue.

This isn’t news to you maybe, but there’ll be other builders in the future so……

Which version are you going for this time?

Nothing quite as challenging as the TPU this time Terry. I’ve got an M817 hauling an MEP804 generator in mind. I’d like to put something interesting in the dump box too and was wondering if a skid-mounted version of the genset would fit…….or any other suggestions?

Well if it’s gonna be pulling a Generator maybe a couple spools of power cable and a few crates of light fixtures? Maybe a couple of power poles, not telephone poles but the shorter 10 foot creosote poles.

A generator would fit just fine in the back. The bed is still large; the same width as the cargo truck, just shorter.

This is a generator, looks like 15Kw, across the bed.

You could go with anything that fits, like:

Construction debris

Supplies

Loader bucket

Or you could always just fill it with dirt.

Hey Gino, thanks for that. Do you know of any kits of generators that would work for this application. Maybe some skilled individual out there has already scratch-built one?

Great ideas Terry. That would certainly make a great load.

Actually, there is one on Shapeways. It looks really nice. I used it as cargo on my M871 trailer build.

Another M813 set you may be interrested in.

Excellent news Gino. I’ve just ordered a generator as the truck’s main cargo on my dump build.
