Very nice. I’m definitely interested in the 3D printed parts when you are ready.

The second picture of the M915A3 with the shelter mounted on it, that was one of our maintenance/recovery trucks used by the USAF 424 MTD during Iraq convoy escort missions.
We were deployed to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait and ran convoys all over Iraq.
I was the Motor Sergeant for 424 Sep 2008 to March 2009.

@BryanDBrewer, Bryan, welcome to the board and thank you for your service. Glad, this thread caught your eye and we won’t complain if you want to share any photos of your time in these trucks.

I will eventually build the shelter mounted truck. I even purchased a 1/35 resin shelter set.

From what I gather the shelter was just a big toolbox sort of speak.Am I correct? Can you share bit out the inside compartment or better yet…have any pics? Thanks!

Mike

Frightliner builds several versions of that basic chassis. There is even one with three axles in the rear for real heavy stuff. Usually came with a 12 cylinder diesel engine.

Gary, are you referring to M920? I have not seen any triple axle drive Freightliner in military colors. It will be an interesting looking truck for sure.

Freightliner did not make any 3 rear axle trucks for the US Military. The 3 rear axle ones were all by CCC (Crete Carrier Corp.) based on the original M915 chassis. There is no 3 rear axle version of the M915A2/A3 by Freightliner.

They were the M917 dump truck and M920 MET (Medium Equipment Transporter).

It was replaced by the twin rear axle M917A2/A3 by Freightliner.

M920 MET

It was replaced by the M983A2 LET (Light Equipment Transporter) based on HEMTT chassis.
