A few years ago I built a 1/35 Bronco Hotchkiss for a French campaign on the old Armorama. It was Bronco kit number 001 and definitely had some issues with fit and missing details. I added some bits including a metal muffler guard and a set of Fruil tracks and probably some other things I can’t remember now. Once finished, it looks pretty good and now resides right in front of my display case.
These pictures are here only for fun and are not intended to be part of this campaign. I will press on with the Char 2 3D kit here.
I remember reading someplace that there was some concern during the battle for France about mis-identification/friendly fire and that some crews had painted the spare road wheel like a cockade with locally available paint. The wheel on the model is painted to simulate what that might have looked like.
Decided to join in this one. I’ll be building Revell Dassault Rafale C.
Sorry I have to go with the screen grab, most of my hobby stuff is still in storage until I move into my new house. Probably gonna build it in the tiger meet scheme shown on the box. Won’t be able to hop in until later in the year though
Yeah I quite like it! They give you decals for the black and white too! I was supper torn as I like the look of a jet loaded for business, but the tiger meet decals are too good to pass up
Karl, Mead - great choices on those subjects. Seeing lots of interesting and different builds here.
Not much to report on mine, spent the day masking the canopy ready for painting. Always a tedious job.
With more daylight when I get back home from work, I’m hoping to make a start on that this week.
That Rafale is certainly a pretty thing. Is the Revell kit a good one? The quality of the kits out recently has been very good, its a great time to be a modeller!
After the painting problems with the hardware store paint I changed things up and shot Mr. Surfacer 1000 primer followed with Tamiya USAF Tan, both out of a rattlecan. This time the paint layed down well and looks to be happy. The next step will be to add a greenish wash to tint the color a bit.
After the first paint job was removed, a lot of sanding was done with the sanding twigs. I spent about three hours and was able to get most of the raster lines out. There are areas that even the twig couldn’t reach such as the drive sprockets. Perhaps those lines can be hidden with some dust or mud.
I’m excited about the new (to me) 3D printed models. This little Char 2 would never be likely to be made by traditional model manufacturing methods but here it is and it is going to look pretty good. Its a great time to be a modeler!
My aftermarket decal set has a registration number to add to a plate on the rear. The manufacturer stated it was based on one on a vehicle used in a movie. I doubt it was correct as the plate has black numbers, but I have it on good authority (@ayovtshev Angel) that the numbers should be red. Black was only used on conscripted vehicles.
Great fun to build. It was also great fun to be part of this campaign. I am looking forward to see the builds from all the others yet to finish.
That looks great. Did you have the Bison decals? I ask cause the Star decals have the numbers in red. Now the sizing and font based on Angel’s friends work is a different story but will work for me.
