A resurrected shelf queen, something I was moving out of the way while working on the Tiran 5 'dozer I’m doing in a Campaign and finally decided to get back on it. A couple of weeks ago it was an AFV Club hull, suspension and roadwheels, a turret ring adaptor and a DEF Models M60 turret. I had gotten a set of R-Model T-97 tracks and wanted to see that they’d look like on a model, this thing was in front of me, and a couple of hours later I had two runs built and on.
It went down the slippery slope from there. I have/had most of the AFV Club parts to do the basic lower hull and am finishing it out with whatever I can get to work. So far it has Dragon, Esci, Academy and Takom bits on it, with the DEF Models M60 conversion set. The forward return rollers are repositioned was well. I have no idea who made the gun tube but it has a metal rod inside and hasn’t warped in the several years it’s been in my gun tube place.
Also, I quickly found out that one link more than the “short” on the “long” side was a bit too much so I have some sag. I’ll “justify” that by scoring up the outer track links to give the impression of severely worn tracks, which just might show a bit of sag. The “short” side fit very well, showing appropriate tension.
End result is to be a vanilla Magach 6 with the Urdan cupola, YKW period.

a Johnny Cash special? just released from Folsom prison?
More like “Shelf of Doom” Prison.
There ya go. “One piece at a time”. It’s a good song, describes a couple of my own cars.
Who knows, it may have ended up as a Magach 7C, a new lease on life.
Turret details are coming together.

The TC’s cupola is from an old Academy Magach 7C I scavenged a while ago. Loader’s hatch is DEF with springs made from wound brass wire, my first time trying that.
The Urdan cupola looks sharp.
Thanks. It’s actually a very good part, comes in the Academy Magach 6B Gal Batash and the -7C kits. All I did was add a little texture. It’s definitely better than the old Verlinden and Legends parts, and it’s plastic, easier to work with, for me anyway.
Assembly is done.

Oops. Looking at the above pic I can see I haven’t added the bolts on the brake access covers.
You’re the King of kitbashing.
A title Russell is worthy of, for sure!
Looks great to me Russell.Ive got the M60 conversion from DEF.Mine has suffered from mould shrinkage so the turret isnt big enough when mounted on hull.Big gaps around turret race.Lord knows what i shall do with it.May end up building turret up with epoxy or sumfing.
Richard
That looks great.
Cheers,
Ralph
I had a bit of a fit issue as well if I recall. It’s been quite a while since I actually assembled the turret halves but I’m sure there’s filler of some kind in there. I did cut the “ring” off the DEF base, graft a spare ring from an old Tamiya or Academy kit to it and make an adapter for the hull. I’ll snap a pic of it tonight. If I used a Tamiya hull I would have been able to drop it right in. I think that’s what I did on the last one, done a couple of years ago.
Richard, I took a look last night Andrew it appears I grafted a lower turret onto the DEF base, cutting The ring out of the DEF lower. I then made an adapter to fit the AFV Club hull.
Worked out nicely Russell.Ive got the DEF models M60 conversion which is good with the aftemarket track set from Afv Club included.I got it for a good price from E.bay and i also bought the Dragon Idf M60 with Blazer armour.A fair few errors with this one,They thought they could get away with an M48a5 mantlet cover on an m60.Real size issues going on and the 105mm main gun is more like a drinking straw in diameter!!!.I was hoping to do one as a National Guard m60 in Europe c1980s and the other as an Idf m60 MEM c1982.
Richard
That’s funny, I’m currently robbing parts out of that same Dragon kit.
