Have you ever made, or have an interest in making bridge weight plates in 1/35?
Or are they too small to mess with?

I haven’t considered it before but I can take it up.
Excellent, thanks!
No rush, I’d probably be down for a dozen or so when you get to them.
I had not thought about this but I guess every one of my HEMTT trucks should have one.
Do you know the diameter of the plate? I can’t find anything online except for the old WWII painted type.
Awesome. Seems easy enough to bang out in around an hour.
Received the M800 series conversion set from @MikeyBugs today. It looks great.
I’m sorry I haven’t been active much here recently, I’ve been busy personally and haven’t had much time to be around here or even do too much in the way of printing.
Speaking of Bridge Plates (Weight Indicators.) Edward has done some wonderful etched detail frets for the Ford and Chevy Quad Gun Tractors. One contains probably the most well done bridge plate in the industry: it having the proper stamped rolled edge all around and the two raised attachment rivets. Now some model manufactures may offer a properly detailed bridge plate but if so I am not aware of it. I also know on many a Tamiya kit this item is offered as a completely featureless small round (thick) plastic disk.
I suggest there may be a need/desire for a properly detailed WWII era bridge plate. Now 3D printing may never equal the scale thinness of an etched item but it can offer the proper raised detail required. In this case I feel the need for proper raised detail is far more important than an exact scale thickness.
The Edward disk is 7/32 inch in diameter (0.218 decimal inches)
I could’a used a set for my Mack NO but I that time I could not find anything other than a flat disc so I chose to leave it off the model.
There’s also two different sizes of the WW2 type bridge weight plates included in the Tamiya allied truck accessories set.
The larger of the two is .250” diameter.
9 inches x 1/35 equals .2571 inches makes it pretty damn close .
Thanks - believe the one that comes with the Deuce kit itself is just a flat disk.
I have some good and some bad (for some) news. The good news: I’m going to be returning to work on February 12. I’ve been cleared by my doctor and everything is set.
Unfortunately that leads into the bad news. Doing this 3D printing takes a ton of time. Time that a full-time job and recent personal relationships (and other hobbies) don’t allow me to have. Because of that, I’ve made the tough decision to stop 3D printing after I go back to work. Come February 2, I intend to stop taking new orders for the majority of the products I sell. All orders placed by 2/2 will be finished and that will be that. After that, I intend to keep selling the comms gear (radios, AN/VIC, SINCGARS) and a few of the more popular items, at least for a little bit. I will upload all of my files to Cults3D where I’ll sell from there. That does mean that you’ll have to print them yourself or have someone else print them for you but it will allow me to keep providing them to the modeling community. It will also allow me to have more time to work on CAD projects which I fully intend to keep doing for the foreseeable future. I can take the CAD work with me and do it from almost anywhere, something I can’t do with the 3D printers.
It’s a tough decision that I’ve mulled over for the past couple of weeks but it’s something that needs to be done so I can do everything that I need to do. I will still hold on to at least one of my printers so I can still print things if needed.
I am happy to hear that you will be going back to work and spending time in your recent personal relationship. Hope it will work out for you well. Now, for the bad news…I need to come up with an order
You have to do what works for you. Will you post your stuff at Shapeways or some other print site so we can still get them? Good luck w/the new job.
I have very much enjoyed working with you. Selfishly, this is not happy news to us.
Wishing you all the best!
Mike,
Best wishes to your recovery and other endeavors. Even though it’s sad to see you leaving the 3D printing commerce, I am sure you made a wise decision to use your time for more worthy concerns. Spending less time on 3D printing has really improved my life quality and I feel happy to say ‘no’. - coming from experience. People under-appreciate how time-consuming CADding and 3D printing are.
I have learned a lot from your posts and inspired me to improve my CAD skills - you’ve been at this much longer than I have so thank you. I look forward to seeing more of your CAD work and be challenged in the future (sure, not as often as before) even though there will be a big gap to fill in this hobby.
