Well guys,
I started up on the most nerve-racking part of this build. The interior of the canopy. I have to get this done first because the shape of the cockpit interior depends on the canopy modifications.
For those who have kept up on the Canopy drama you might remember that the manufacturer basically told me to get bent in terms of getting a replacement so if this gets screwed up the only way to get a replacement part would be to get a whole new kit.
You might also remember that the side part of the canopy cracked and fell off (my fault) but is an easy fix since it’s not a part that needs to be clear. BUT the worst part was the crack that formed on the front armoured glass of the gunner. WELP, it got way worse…
Obviously, thin cement was not enough to prevent it from cracking and it has gotten way past very noticeable. So I bought some clear styrene sheets and I plan to cut out the glass and create a replacement. Only option at this point but I am confident I can make it work.
As you can see the base layer for the frame is put down in the Pilot section and once it is dry tomorrow I can start building up on it with all the ribs and rivets and raised pieces. Very happy with it so far and while I did get some tiny glue spots it’s nothing that I cant buff out. Most of the smudges on the canopy however are just grease.
I’m very excited to keep with this now that the harder part is over.
Cheers!
