so, I have finished the dio base and painted it a little. there’s a couple of oil drums and one has been turned over to act as a seat. i personally think it is going great!

I’d like to figure out when the Soviets used the limbers and when they didn’t. I sometimes see a limber between the truck and the gun and sometimes the gun is hitched right to the truck. I have the Soviet horse artillery set and would expect to see the limber there, but am curious about what happens when vehicles are involved.
Can’t wait to see how it comes together Guru. I put together a couple of horses and paused with the extra stuff I need to scratch on those but will get back to it one of these days.

Simple reason Phil - The Russians had more guns than limbers as time went by.
There is less weight to pull with just the gun, so you do not need something that can pull all the weight of gun and loaded limber together. A lighter towing capable vehicle (or horses) can move the gun and do so quicker without ammo and a limber. Then all you need is one heavy load capable truck to haul enough ammo to supply several guns at once.
A little bit of progress on the crane and turntable.
The crane is now assembled apart from the chain and the main hook.
Roughed up the turntable… And painted the rotatable base with a mix of hull red and dark iron. Then worked in some H7 graphite to imitate where it turns on the base.
Then with the crane dry fitted for effect.
Last couple show the anchor hook attached to the chain. A simple cut into the hook and slid the chain into it. Will secure the cut with a small bit of super glue.
I quite like the finish on the chain as it is so may just a very small brushing of light rust at the end to give it an older used look.

Looks good. Cannot wait to start mine soon, have to finish the Ho-I by Monday so that is my only focus. I did a mix of hull red and dark iron for the exhausts on my Ho-I and T-80 build and used dark iron on the tracks for both kits.

The crane is a really nice little kit Ryan… it would fit into alot of different Dio’s. I will try and do mine in a mix of hull red and either flat red or dark iron, depends which I like most.
Dark iron is my go to paint now for a base coat on tracks…

I agree on all accounts, the T-60 w/crane keeps calling me. The crane kit is very versatile. Dark Iron is my track goto also.

I’ve got enough on my plate though, so joining this campaign is a firm maybe for me.

Didn’t post a proper picture of the starting point of the T-70 I will be building for this campaign. I got an Aber metal barrel for it as well and am starting the build today. The included figures will be used to practice my figure painting.

first entry… Ok, so Christmas PRessie time - son had a list of kits I liked and, in his wisdom, chose this one… Started the build and it is up to Miniarts small part, complex, fun quality. Engine went together nicely, chassis made up of a number of parts but seems to be aligned nicely… Each wheel is made up of 8 parts (7 parts of tyre and a wheel hub) and there are 7 of them to do so that will take a while… Going with the box scheme of 4BO and brown. Need to work out which components can be painted when and if I will display the engine or not…
engine just rested in - doesn’t seem to be a big unit
