We moved to a smaller apartment for the time being and I need to figure out how to set up my hobby stuff : paints, tools and in progress models (subassemblies, etc)
I was wondering in anyone knows of a suitable tool box or something similar sold in the uk that can hold the tools and paints (mostly the small Vallejo type plastic paint bottles) in an easily accessible way.
Will go and scout hardware stores and whatnot but if there is a known solution I would be happy to use that instead.
I took it on a deployment. I probably had six to eight hours during the whole deployment I was able to spent modeling. Which is cool. I didn’t go there to build models.
However, the box was heavy, so…On the Harbor Freight, and a few of these, which can be set up so many different ways:
This one is set up as a range box. I’ve removed most of the stuff. They come with dividers - you can see where they were, but I tossed them for this box.
And underneath it, more space for whatever. Holds three boxes of ammo nicely but is just the right height for paints. With the box on top they’ll stay upright.
In the large compartment I made a shelf from particle board and thin foam. You could have two layers of whatever you want - sprues for instance. The shelf is held up with bits of packing foam from a mortar round box.
well , though I would have a look to see what had been updated since I last went on there, its missing a lot of things, they use to do fold out carrying cases,with paint and brushes in doors and pull out mat.

In my earlier years I developed three containers for my hobby tools - a large plastic toolbox (the kind with little storage pods on the lid) for the compressor and airbrush items, a smaller fishing-tackle box for knives and hand tools (the small box came as a two-fers deal with the bigger box, from B&Q I think), and a Really Useful box (9L I think?) to hold my Vallejo paints. Part-built kits lived in their kit boxes on the shelf, unless moved into a spare Amazon shipping box if too big to fit back into the kit box. Of course now I have a dedicated hobby room with shelves and a work table, but I still decant tools into the small box to take to club night and shows…
Vallejo sells a paint bottle case, there are other knock offs you can find. As mentioned a fishing tackle box for the tools. I would probably use the kit box or larger storage box to keep the subassemblies.
Paints and related products all go in a single ArtBin Super Satchel. About 60% of this stuff is junk I never use. If I ever find a deserving, enthusiastic kid, he or she is gonna get a great starter package.
This is my model building workstation. I can build in a bedroom, at the dining room table, in front of the television, or with the patio doors open to watch the blue jays and squirrels.
My airbrush station is a cardboard box in the garage.
I have some additional stuff relegated to a small desk, two fastener storage boxes on the desk, and a big moving box that fits under the desk. That is where the airbrushes and primer hang out. The air compressor sits in my old office until needed. Most stuff in the desk area is complete junk I never use.
