I would say more of a morale/fun thing… back in my days of wearing facepaint, I always tried to get the Colonel Kurtz look when I would “green up”. It wasn’t the Army demonstrated method, but it looked bad ass. Other guys in my unit did other methods… I vaguely remember one of my buddies doing a Gene Simmons Kiss demon style facepaint…
