@Frenchy thank you for posting all of these fantastic photos.
This one with the zip tied muzzle cover is outstanding.
A fuel truck other then the Gaz-66 one…
Even just an aftermarket conversion for all the Kamaz and Ural kits already out.
I agree. Although fuel trucks seem rare even now in 1:1. I’ve seen a few photos, but not enough to sustain a 40 mile long convoy. It does seem though that two of the Gaz-66 tanks could be spliced together to give you something reasonably close for the Kamaz fuel truck. Other than the length the dimensions look about right…
Those visored hats in the new throwback uniforms are overdoing the 50 mission crusher look. And that was reserved for actual pilots. Note only Spaatz and Doolittle (both pilots) have adopted that style.
The real deal back in WW2…
If I purchase a set of pinks and greens I might need to alter mine like Ike did. Seeing photos of his uniform always reminds me of this:
Yeah they go like that because of the headsets they wore. British tank crewman had a similar thing with their berets before crew helmets came along, the wool got pulled down on both sides instead of just the right. It then became standard for a time for berets to be shaped like that on purpose, but it’s now pretty much gone back to it being the norm for it to be pulled down to the right.
I always said the most dangerous thing in the world was a female B52 pilot with PMS!
Assuming your referring to a nuke arty round. I can’t say whatkind of fuse they used, cause I never saw a fused up nuke round. I did see an 8" round once (probably inert) . This nuke stuff is way past me. Yet I did have a cousin that was a bombardier on a B47. He told me once that the nuke went off way above ground (perhaps 100 feet or maybe even 100 yards) and was radio detonated. Always thought that was interesting, but also spooky. About the most exotic thing I ever used was the Cofram round, and I shot the very first one ever used in combat against the 2nd of the 72nd NVA Battalion. Results were ugly

I’ve never seen that in real life. I did see it in this classic movie, and it still strikes me as odd.
Of course rocking a set of goggles over your beret was in vogue once, as was apparently wearing a blue silk scarf into combat. But then, if you can destroy tanks with nothing more than a .50 cal. and a few hand grenades, I guess you can do whatever the hell you want.
that is also a claim that nobody speaks of. Who really knows what it actually is. I remember when the IDF claimed several 2000 yard one shot kills in the Baka Valley. Army didn’t believe it and sent a team over there to see. It was confirmed. There is actual film footage of a German tank getting a 3350 meter kill on a KV-1, and that was a very long standing record. I also know that the M1’s have been tested shooting 4000+ meters at Yuma because I over heard the engineers talking about it. There was also a testing done with the M60 tanks that were trying their luck at indirect fire. Think of the longest kill ever in spades!

That is exactly what happens in real life but like I said it became the fashion in armoured units to shape berets like that. Thank god common sense prevailed after about 30 years and it’s back to normal.
look at the tenth picture! Not only was the bore vac pierced, but look at the rust inside the bore. That gun was totally unsafe to shoot.

Frenchy a question? Or others may know. Some barrels have red ends on or red in them. Reason?? Never been fired? Tested?
If you are referring to that photo several threads up - Russians have always like to paint the inside of their muzzle brakes red. But obviously that is not a howitzer. If you look closely there’s a thread protector screwed onto the end of the barrel - the is not a rifled portion of the gun. It looks as if someone has simply stuffed a red rag in there to keep crap out of the barrel. Red perhaps so it’s easier to remember it’s in there.
There was an instance around 25 years ago where they fired a blank out of an M101 at a retirement ceremony. They forgot they had stuffed the tube with oily rags. The wives seemed to enjoy helping stomp out the little fires all over the parade field.
I personally like the two sided fold.
One sided being non-symmetrical, messes w/ my OCD…
Shockingly, the IDF does not do it well as all.
And I hate the super droopy / flaccid and / or the chef hat styles.
Some of that head wear looks as ridiculous as the Sardaukar depicted in the Dune miniseries (2000).
